The bell housing has been known to crack mainly due to drive shaft problems. But the 3116's don't have a place they crack that is inherit to the engine. You could put in any other engine with a #2 SAE bell housing. Although not impossible it would be a challenge with the cooling fan mounted to...
I nearly ripped off the battery box and fuel tank going over some tall and narrow berms. Luckily the ground was soft and the truck just plowed through the dirt. You can see where the air tank bracket was shifted over on the mounting bolts.
I'd also like to use the outboard space for bolt on...
So I've got this hair brained idea to relocate all the outboard equipment (batteries, fuel tank, and air tanks) between the frame rails, or in the case of the air tanks, fabricate a roll bar from steel pipe that also functions as air reservoirs.
The space is there however my concern is the...
I'm guessing that the 3116 is most efficient at 1800 or so RPM.. However I'm not sure if enough torque is available at 1800 rpm to push the truck down the road at 70 mph. At lower speeds however fuel economy should be improved significantly.
Regarding the hub gears.. You cannot change the hubs...
When torque multiplication is done at the wheels, components upstream of the reduction hubs can be smaller and less robust as they don't have to deal with the torque.
There is a process that needs to be performed to get the backlash right on the spider gears. Some special tools are required. With the 235hp the LMTV has even with a 1:1 hub ratio, I don't think top speed or fuel economy will be stellar and off road performance will likely suffer.
So before I get flamed to Search the F****ng archives.. I did. Several people asked this question on the high speed gears thread but there was no answer. After the re-gear (3.07 ring and pinion) the speedo is showing 20mph off at 50. GPS verifies a speed of 69 actual with the speedo reading...
If there is still a barcode/part number tag on the third member you can check that. If it hits 65 mph on the highway you have the taller (numerically Lower) gears.
