Well, I did finish the exhaust two years ago.
Then life happened and here we are.

Removing the 6.2/400 in favor of 4bd1t/4500. Details as I get there, but... charge air cooler...
I'd look for some longer bolts to help hold the rear portion of the case as you slide it back, just a couple to help keep it aligned, similar to what is done to slide the tranny back when replacing the rear main.
U joint in my rear driveshaft gave up the ghost, non greasable vatozone special, been on there six years.
Didn't have to walk home, but did ask mrs.k for a bag of tools, a gatorade bottle and some tape. Not a bad place to breakdown, dog and I had a place in the shade.

If you're working with stock wiring, I'd make sure I had 24v coming to the starter relay. After the smoke left you may have fried a fusible link.

Lucky you! Now, only thing left is to read the 18,XXX threads in the CUCV section and the 761 threads in the CUCV Hot Rodding and Modification section and you'll be all caught up! Well, then there is the matter of the TM's.... :-D

Agree with sharecropper, cut and reposition. If budget allows I'd replace. Plenty of options, from simple tabs to complete mounts or diy.

Kudos to you for knowing your way around a sewing machine. Are you using your olds ones as a pattern or starting fresh? My mrs. made some out of cordura and after a few years, they're still in real good shape.
On the plates, thinking radio tray and/or foot ramp, could not confirm with the TM...
