And my main point was that... truck was stopping, not leaking, and not obviously dragging or pulling... most of our typical brake tests are covered by this... on top of that, she had new linings... how was I to know that there was pudding in my lines and cylinders... upon your acquisition...
Guys... this is not a soapbox... I am truly, truly concerned
I was bellyaching about the truck not going faster than 44mph... then found that the fuel was real nasty and muddy... replaced all filters and washed out tank... took care of a "non-functioning" tank vent (somebody disconnected the...
I agree... but if your deuce is a keeper (I hope mine is) the idea of not having to screw around with lines in the future is tempting. Anyway, the purpose of this exercise is to discuss it amongst ourselves to see if it would make sense for us ... Largely, the way I see it, make or break is...
don't know, but if it is the same stuff as used in my vette... it is tough... and hard to bend... and triply hard to double flare... so it probably needs to come ready to go unless you have a serious flaring and tubing bending kit.
And I have nothing against show queens... they are just not for me... I remember filming an autocross while my son was driving our '65 vette (that we have owned for over 25 years) ... and I just about busted a gut when he lost it coming back on the home stretch... spinning wildly and recovering...
BTW, I spoke to another bud that sells Mil surplus parts here in so fla and he said that restorers probably would not be interested... probably would not want to alter the originality... I have always been a follower of ... if it works and it is better... I will use it.
I am not going to give him a limit or a heads up... let him come up with a number... but the fact that all deuces are basically the same... should make it real interesting for him... I know that I had to replace 2 of my lines during this brake job... BTW, he also makes the rubber hoses...
I have a friend that has manufactured stainless steel brake components for Corvettes for over 20 years. Friday I visited him to purchase a gallon of silicone brake fluid for my deuce fire truck. He has the facilities to do all of the lines for almost any vehicle. Out of curiosity I asked him if...
new hoses coming. Air pack rebuild issues... going to look for the posts. I have been told that they can be a real pita to rebuild. supposed to test before install? Master cylinder reservoir kit... gotta find those posts... read one a while back where the reservoir goes in the cab... safety...
OK it's time... Deuce Fire Truck gets Complete brake job, vents and hub flip for singles and re-venting air pack, master cylinder, fuel tank and transfer case.
The brake job will include replacing master cylinder, air pack, vents, all hoses, wheel cylinders and brake shoes (as needed).
The...
To silicone or not...
My son's 71 GTX was parked on a lift on top of my 69 Super Bee 6 pack w lift off hood. Guess what... caliper leak, on top of my grill vent and hood and destroyed a beautiful paint job. That alone is enough to make me replace all of the brake system fluids with Dot 5...
Don't believe bridge height clearanc signs... at least not in Puerto Rico
We were responding to a hurricane cleanup in Puerto Rico, right by Roosevelt Roads AFBase, and were bringing large wood grinders to help reduce and recycle their debris... well, on the way into our job site in Fajardo...
Just when you thought you had heard it all.... ;-)
It's funny that the Minnesotans were able to drive the truck at all, since my 20+ mile jaunt really built up a vacuum in the tank. Maybe the guy that did the mod (crimp) just left the fuel cap loose?
Thanks
OK,
I am perplexed as to why the prior operators deemed it necessary to disconnect the vent pipe going to the engine/transfer case/fuel tank and crimp it in the engine compartment. At first I thought someone had stripped the threads in the breather pipe where they attach, but I have...
