Ryan,
The demil requirements for HMMWV bodies is that they be cut diagonally from corner to corner then, that the suspension mounting points be cut out too. I think they even insist that they be torch cut, not sawn, so that there's even less of them being put back together.
Doing it by the book...
There are SAE bell housings out there for the Cummins. I got mine from a wrecking yard that does bigger trucks like Freightliners, Petes, etc.
You'll find the Cummins/Allison set-up in UPS and FedEx delivery box-trucks, armored cars, other trucks of similar size and purpose.
Everything should be...
Let's not forget Tower Park, sometime around April. Everybody's welcome there but it's mostly show, booths and get-together with friends; no place to off-road.
Just off I-5 between Sacramento and Stockton.
Tower Park Resort
14900 W. Highway 12
Lodi, Calif.
Tire plug/patch kit, set or two of Tyvek coveralls, First Aid kit for any scraped knuckles you might acquire.
Depending on how far off-road you might venture; insect repellant, compass, fire starter kit, policeman's whistle (distinctive sound and can be heard much farther than someone...
This is what I did for the baby HEMTT but the idea is applicable to most MVs with minor tweeking.
A reinforced bracket that bolts to the frame with a hole up through the bed or walkway.
The bed or walkway gets a 3/8" round plate that acts as a bearing surface and also 'finishes off' the hole.
A...
Just make sure you use oil or kerosene on the cutter. The cutter wheel needs to roll, not slide.
Practice on some scraps first. You want enough down pressure to give a good score line; and going over the line a second time if the first pass isn't good enough usually ends up in a bad job.
The...
The 404s have torque tube drivelines like an early Ford. That means you have to drop an axle and the driveline to seperate things in order to even start pulling the trans/transfer case (all one unit). I don't remember where the motor mounts are but on some Unimog maintenance jobs it's easier to...
Slim, if the truck has been sitting for a while you may have crud throughout the fuel lines.
Metal lines are notorious for kinking so when you get your pump problems cured you might want to disconnect the line at the IP and run the electric pump a bit to see what kind of flow you have. Let it...
I prefer a motor driven pump as opposed to a "solid state" unit. The motor driven units are usually good for 70 to 140 gph and put out pressures high enough to require a pressure regulator. It may be overkill but that way I'm sure my system demand won't ever reach pump max. capacity.
There are...
The forum display isn't too bad and can be brightened up by highlighting altough it would be nice to have other color or contrast options.
What's killin' these old eyes is the white text on light grey in the titles column of the tech library. How 'bout some help here, Mangus.
Looks like the heat exchanger tube from a Schwingfeuer (Swingfire) heater assy. One of the assessories for stuff in artic service.
Remove the cap and the nose of the heater slides into the tube. Water lines from the truck coolant system bring coolant to the double-walled tube where it's heated...
If you're set on using rope then look into hawser material. "Samson Braid" is one name for it but every mfr. has their own. It's used for mooring lines and tow lines when tugs are handling barges.
The selling point of it is that it doesn't stretch much but even more important-- if it breaks it...
If you have the room, use wood blocks for cribbing under a hydraulic jack. 4X6s give a good footprint and don't wobble like 4x4s do. You can also level the jack with cribbing if you're on uneven terrain.
The shorter the jack extension is run out the better. I also like a thin piece of hardwood...
Hey toomany,
Everybody here had to learn sometime; and the smart ones will admit they're still learning.
Reading the manuals is always a good idea as there are certain 'tricks' to know before
diving into anything as big as a deuce.
If you start out small and basic; fluid level checks...
I'm not sure as to placement on the truck but the BII (basic issue items) in the -10 operator's manual usually lists everything that's supposed to be there. That at least is a place to start.
Some of the info is right out in plain sight but some requires reading to ferret it out. Usually in a...
All that's in your dash 10 under Specifications, Vehicle Dimensions, Table 1-2.
Didn't see a straight M35 but the M35A2s are 112 inches OAH. The M342A2s are 105 inches OAH.
When checking stuff like this, always make sure you're reading from the correct column 'cause the same table gives an...
