If the truck was a runner and then sat in the desert without the cdr/air cleaner, should the motor be torn down or is there a process to flush? The truck I'm looking at has the hood in place giving the engine some protection. OR should I just change the oil /replace parts and go for it...

For me it was a bad cartridge seal. Excessive oil in the intake + compression in the crankcase. I pulled the turbo and leak tested it with water. The water freely flowed through the seal to the oil passage. $150 part
I just picked up another 40lb's of sand from Barstow Friday. I started with my shop vac followed by four sessions with the pressure washer. I am doing open heart surgery tomorrow to find out what's making my turbo sick. Then off to the machine shop!
