Help, threw rod and stuck in Rock Creek WY

As has been discussed before, the multifuel has many problems in longevity and ruggedness. Swap it out for a good used International or Cummins out of a school bus.

Mystery of the Clicking Solenoid - M1009

Wait, we have a communication problem. We are both saying the same thing. Short the big terminal (battery cable to starter) to the "S" terminal to completely bypass the entire start wiring. This will eliminate the wiring as a problem or verify a bad solenoid (assuming that the batteries are...

    Electrical Question

(Puts on electrical engineer hat) Yes, you can use the frame as ground. But as others have said, these trucks are 40 years old or older and the ground connections between the cab tub and chassis and battery may not be so great. It would not be a bad idea to put a new bonding strap between the...

New rust protection for deuce this year

I have read that the best way to get cosmoline off parts is boiling water. Great for small parts as the cosmoline will melt off and float to the top, but not practical for large parts.

Mystery of the Clicking Solenoid - M1009

First, I am an electrical engineer. I know what a solenoid does. I have also worked as an electronics technician and an aviation electrician. I have plenty of experience in troubleshooting electrical problems. There will not be that big of a spark because the only current you are drawing...

No, but it will help eliminate the solenoid as a problem.

The waxoyl looks like a good solution. It is basically wax dissolved in a paraffin based solvent. The solvent dissolves and leaves the waxy substance behind.

Mystery of the Clicking Solenoid - M1009

Yes, short the big battery terminal to the solenoid coil wire. That will bypass all the starting circuitry. The ignition switch does not need to be on just to crank it.

Mystery of the Clicking Solenoid - M1009

Can you turn the engine manually? Try this: Take a screwdriver and short the small control wire to the battery wire on the starter solenoid. If it cranks, you have a problem with the voltage to the solenoid control. If it doesn't crank, you have a problem with the heavy gauge wiring from the...
