In the military rule #1 was to have the ignition off when working on radios. They like things totally idiot proof.
Your power cable should be CX-4720/VRC and connects to J21 main power receptacle (left side), J22 power/audio/control receptacle(center) connects to C-2299/VRC with cable...
The bumper HQ15 doesn't mean much by itself. Need to know the rest of the markings to actually identify the unit. HQ is headquarters, which could be anything from a battalion hq on up. As an example when I was the Operations Sergeant Major for a tank battalion I had two wheeled vehicles. HQ3...
Sounded interesting, I'd like to change the seats in my M1009 too. I did a Google and found this:

Address Map
Phone: 562-633-1663
Products Description:

Is that the correct company?
Great trip, thanks for the info and photos. Too bad we didn't know about the cost of shipping that radio before the trip. I could have met you in Virginia. Nice looking truck! The "Jump TOC" for my tank battalion was a duce with a box on the back. I filled it up with VRC-12 gear, map board, etc...
RE: Maybe a group purchase will work out??
Did anyone ever make the followup trip to Coleman's? I've shopped their catalog for years. I'm thinking of a road trip with the M1009 on Friday (I actually have a day off!!). Looks like I"m about 2 hours and some change from there - then figure on a...
Always lots of great ideas on ss! So far I have replaced the radiator and hoses, windshield wiper motor, and added a block heater. I became a believer in block heaters when I worked for an ambulance company - diesel engines on call in all weather.
While I enjoy driving my M1009, it does have...
The "Be Sure Radios Are Off Before Starting Engine" is a standard warning on all military vehicles. Usually there is a nice decal (if they had them) or sometimes a unit will use a stencil ... or ...
Communications gear does not like large surges of electricity as a wake up call. I had this...

Also, I have a couple of sugar scoop mounts (1 take off, 1 new in box w/ retaining rings), mx-6707 antenna base, etc. that I'm...
RE: Army SUPPLY BULLETIN (SB) 11-131-1, VEHICULAR SETS AND A
Jack,
I have a copy(repro) that I got off e-bay. I can check and see who the source was if you are interested. Or look something up if you have a specific question. My copy is dated 1 November 1986.

No, the CX-4722 is not the same as the cx-4723. Here is a quick guide to the functions of most of the cables used with the VRC-12
family of radios:
CG-1773 [RF] connects RT to antenna, Aux. Rec. to antenna or Aux. Rec. to Aux Rec.
CX-4720 [power] connects from the vehicle battery to MT-1029...
Get a copy of TM 9-2320-289-20 (available on CD), page 4-31 shows the fuze box and lists the fuses. I just bought a 1984 M1009 and it is doing fine so far - except for a problem with the windshield wiper motor - slow speed is okay, fast does not work and the blades don't "dock" when the switch...
