Wow, Really sorry to hear about your problems with Alpha. His trucks always look great on the web, and sound good in his descriptions. I've had my eye on the shelter carrier, but now would be very hesitant, especially for his prices.
As Bjorn pointed out, the 524 has a built in speaker. His diagram should answer most of your questions regarding installation. You can add a speaker to the crewmembers box if you don't have headsets (or don't want to wear them all the time) or just want to use a mike instead of the CVC or...
Saturn doubled their price on the antenna mount kit. That was a bit of a shock when I went to purchase another kit. Oh well, da prices just keep going up.
Drat! I'd love to go, but the NJ DOT has us working this Saturday and Sunday due to the holiday traffic. Blagh!! Hopefully next time I'll be able to make it. Hope you all have a great time.
I had never heard of the darn things until they showed up in a conversation a month ago.
I bought one locally last month. It is the M116A1, I'll post a photo later. The guy that I bought mine from also has the older, smaller, one for sale for $300. If anyone is interested I'll see if it is...
Oh yes, I can see it now, shades of "Airplane."

Hmmm, sort of "The Great Pumpkin" goes military? But give the guy credit, as he says:
"OK, when you get back into your chair after laughing yourself silly, I think that the paint job is a partial attempt at a Swiss or German camouflage. When I drive around town I turn a lot of heads. But...
Using a jack stand in conjunction with your jack is ALWAYS the correct procedure. Now, having said that, when I change tires on disabled cars on the highway in the rain, snow, etc. I don't use them - cause I want to get the job done QUICKLY before some brain dead clown talking on a cell phone...
I wondered when someone was going to notice that this member received an exceptionally warm welcome. You "old hounds" :)
Amy, fortunately like old hounds, they bark a lot, scratch a bit, then go back to sleep.
ps, Never, never go barefoot in their back yard!

Hi Amy,
Welcome to the group. Always nice to see another CUCV among all these "big truck" collectors. :)
In case you are interested in the background on your vehicle, according to the bumper numbers:
It belonged to the Intelligence Officer (S-2) of
the 3/126 Aviation (GSAB? anyone speak...
A turtle back with a .50 cal. That has to draw some attention. Someone has a real nice toy. I've seen a couple on e-bay with $30,000 plus price tags. Darn!
I bought one awhile ago (I think from Mike Murphy) just haven't had time to figure a way to install an outlet for 24V. I was thinking of putting it in the ash tray / cigarette lighter area and wiring it to the 24 volt supply under the hood. Anyone tried something like this yet?
Chuck,
This is from TM 11-5820-401-20-1, it is available on line in .pdf (although the hard copy is handy to have too). See if this answers your questions regarding the two cables:
2-9. RT ANTENNAS AS-1729 AND AT-912. (CONT)
INSTALLATION OF CABLES PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE: Install RT. See...
And THAT folks, is what we call TEAM WORK! Great job all around, especially those that didn't actually get their hands dirty ... just their minds (?)
:)
Very nice toy! Congratulations! I'm sure it will bring you many hours of joy, and probably an even greater number of hours in the dog house.

Look over my shoulders and you'll see where my hearing went. Good luck with the CUCV, I'll be making some similar changes (minus the noise assault quality audio) on my M1009.
RE: Gun Rack for M1009
While surfing for some other items I ran across this at Saturn Surplus:

IMO their price is a tad high at $26.50. I've always been pleased with the products and service when I order from them.
