After the required photo op in the parking lot, we went in for breakfast. As usual, there were no complaints about the food. We had a good time, a good waitress...
The truck was shifting fine, Jay was like a kid who inherited a free pass to the candy store. We went out, took a few more photos...
Jay contacted me with some questions about Riley and concerns about his A3, so I told him if he could go Thursday, I would just meet him there.
He got back with me and said he had a 0830 to 0900 appointment. I had told him we could tow it to Salina or down to Saginaw Missouri if needed, I...
Like I said before, it is very solid and he has all of the parts except canvas. No rust in this one, not even in the battery box or the tread plates in the foot wells. I just wish I could have purchased it. Glen
A few months? ago I popped off in a thread about seeing a Command Car and somebody asked for photos. It took me a while, but I was back in the promised land today. It was parked here after a parade in 1962. Glen
Glad to hear that Steve, we have some good members in the Topeka area, I can run up there and move it for you, or one of them can pick it up and put it in safe holding until you are sure it is ready to roll. I could bring it back here, but that would just add 220 more miles to your adventure. I...
I just know Karl Kostner took advantage of my rookie experience with the exhaust stacks. When we recovered my deuce from Ellsworth, it was cold, really cold outside. It was sweet music when that old girl started. We had brought in ten gallons of fresh fuel, good thing too as the tank was about...
That would be a lot of rain! It would have to fill that horizontal tube from the fender to inside the hood, then up the pipe a foot or more. I would guess a 36 inch rainfall right down the tube would not get it that full.
What model do you have, the M1009 Blazer or one of the truck variations? Remember that the trucks are very low geared and should be kept under 50 mph. It is not uncommon for the trucks to beat themselves to death at high rpms. If it is dripping oil out of the rear main seal, it is a chore to fix...
I have been getting decent service out of the NDTs in mud, even though our mud is really slick and not normally very deep. What happens on ice or thin hard packed snow is the tires do not have any gripping edges. They ride on that narrow zig zag line down the center of the tire. I never tried...
We run into that all the time. Guys will compress snow between the dual tires and get stuck in less than six inches of snow. Especially if the snow is packing a lot of moisture. It will pack solid in there and float the tires away from the solid surface. It does not take much to stick a tractor...
No argument in the cutting of the NDT making them work better, you are cutting out a third of the wear though as they are so rounded, they ride on the ridge.
You get a lot more snow up there than we do! You think a pair of 7 or 8 inch wide tires sink into the snow better than a single 14 to 16 inch wide tire? That is interesting to me. Looks like the flotation would be close, although the military singles do have some puffy sidewalls. We have to hunt...
You cannot possibly be talking about NDTs as they are about as dangerous as they come in these conditions. There is no bite on ice or a thin layer of snow for an NDT. They have the rib in the center of the tire with no siping grooves, almost as bad as trying to run a drag slick. They work good...
I have a M35A2 on 1100s singled, came out of the military that way and drives great, the extra road speed is nice, so is the easy steering. They are a road tire though, I forget the numbers now, but it seems like the single rating for the 1100 X 4 is more than the truck is rated for. I have not...
