That is my experience as well. I normally do not run over 2200 or about 45 mph. My deuces will pull a second.deuce along pretty comfortably at 2100 or 2200 rpm. I have never found out where the governor shuts mine down.. Glen
I am betting something is in the shift mechanism. They are on pretty tight tolerances and it would not take much. Never been into a deuce shift tower, but I know most truck towers will not tolerate much dirt or debris. I have an abundance of trucks right now, so stealing a tower for a few hours...
I would be inclined to think it was in the shifted and not the transmission or oil. If you would like for me to pull a shift tower and let you try it, we can arrange that. Both of the ones I own now work very nicely. Silver or golden dust is pretty common in truck transmissions due to the low...
I have done quite a bit of work on deuces in the last year. They are not bad at all. I can tell you that the five ton is big, everything in the drive train is big and heavy. The cabs may be the same size and overall width and length may not be that much different, but that five ton is overkill...
You have to appreciate a deal like that. I had deuce load of wood to build a deck yesterday and failed to take a photo. He gave me five dollars for fuel, but that was unnecessary. We had a pretty short hop to make. It took about three hours to sort through the wood for good boards and to deliver...
I never asked him to drive one, he is very honest and straight forward. Normally they will not let you move the vehicles until you are there to sign them out. He is a good guy, he may be able to hook you up with the DRMO guys that would know. They had several really nice running A3s when we...
He did find out crushing two five tons together makes a weight load by themselves. He had plenty of room, just a heavy, compact load. They are amazing, not sure how he keeps from pushing an axle tube through the floor, the noises those blocks make as they give it up are almost sickening. I know...
Scooping it up would be safest. We just recovered a very nice looking and running A3 at Riley and the transmission was bad. No preview in the world would have helped him out. It was a sad deal. I normally am all for going and driving if they have brakes, but the advancement to auto transmissions...
I think the doubling of the frame gives height to the rear of the truck. Looks like there is a toss up between doubling the frame and using a spacer block on the axle to get the truck level. There has been a lot of discussion about spring wrap running a spacer block and the length of the U...
We have an old dirt man south of here that kind of collects old scrapers and Caterpillars. He has around 30 antique Caterpillars. It would be cost prohibitive for him to haul it home. He would surely enjoy it though. His health is failing as well, he has quit working on the big stuff, instead he...
While stripping some switches out of a five ton, I found some heavy duty molded wire splitters, similar to the #40 wire split that goes to the dash lights, but in 10 gauge. I am not sure what the part number would be, but they are short and come from the wiring on at the man switch. The have the...
I think about 200 of us should get those on our trucks and go park in a certain church lot in Topeka Sunday morning....
To answer the thread, I like it...
My old 72 would kick right off down to about 0 degrees, I hope this 68 or 71 are the same way. I really liked the way it started right off, no matter how cold it seemed to be around here. The 68 has been converted to ether injection, hopefully I do not have an ether baby. Glen
I am not really familiar with centimeters, but I think you are talking less than 1/2 inch. If the truck in the photo is the one in question, I think you have a fine machine. I agree with the others, you are measuring the backing plate. One could be contoured a little outside and the other a...
