I don't have the resource right in front of me, but I believe there is a drawing and text for troubleshooting gauges in the TM, you might have to dig around a bit to find it. I wish I could give you a page and diagram number.

I'd try that first and then go from there. It could be some other issues, let's start with the simplist first.

I'm thinking it's probably a grounding issue. Make sure the instrument panel is making good electrical contact with the rest of the dash area. If need be, run a separate grounding wire from the panel to the dash. The four screws in the panel get dirty and lose their conductivity to the dash...

You probably should have inserted an indication arrow pointing to the relay, just so he knows it's not the oil pressure sending unit.

Putzing around in the shop today I found the box of rivets. They were 3/16ths Medium Aluminum. I backed them up with a #10 washer, seemed to work well. Hope this helps.

I got the same items with my 116 a few years back. I also thought they were too wimpy to be rigged for lifting, especially with a 003A in the bed.

I'm far from a tranny expert, but it sounds as though your second synchro might be a bit worn.
