That style hitch is interchangeable with the pintle. It could be found on the earlier series military drash trailers, and last I knew it was still available new from certain trailer parts dealers as well.
Yes it is. That’s a later model no7 wrecker set.
Meant for the back of a truck for towing. It also works good for loading a truck/trailer with stuff, although that’s not the original intent.

Unfortunately nothing has been done to the m108 lately, work and too many other projects have gotten in the way as usual. Also added a working m62 wrecker to the fleet a while back which will probably end up ahead of the crane on the list.

I’ve welded in a couple elbows to fix one. I welded a couple pieces of scrap from the inlet end to the stack to keep everything in place while I fitted up the new elbows.
