You can also open the glad hand on the passenger(or is it driver? I forget!) side of the truck. If there is constant air coming out, the airpack is suspect.
Honestly, if you tune you LDT, it will have similar power to an LDS. I certainly wouldn't go through the effort of a motor swap for the little gain gain you'd get.
Roll up the windows, close the vents, and open the passenger windshield about 6 inches. You'll be fine it pushes the heat out of the cab and keeps your trip bearable.

If the truck has idled a lot, it might stuck rings. Put as much weight in the bed as possible and drive it hard for an hour or two. Get it hot and drive it hard, the multi likes to work.
