If he paid $2800 I'm guessing it worked out to about $5K total to get it in the driveway. ;)
Seems to be a recurring theme - buy a parts truck for parts, then change course and try to bring it back once it's delivered. They seem to be dumping a lot of trucks in this condition which could...
Thanks to some garbage plugs, I've done mine twice now and I've only had the truck since last fall.
I did all my left side ones from underneath, hunk of foam on the creeper to give me more reach.
The right side was much more difficult, and the three aft ones were through the doghouse hole...
I've only had to deal with a dual battery jump start in my M1009, but connecting one jump box to each battery (minding the POS and NEG) works fine. I doubt the HMMWV is any different, but wait for those with more experience to comment.
Reading through that your D10 did meet the FMVSS at the time of manufacture, which may also be true for a HMMWV manufactured in the mid 80s. That may not be true, and probably isn't, for a HMMWV manufactured in 2007 (or thereabouts). :(
Looks like a marital/family-man escape kit. The old classic - "Honey, Ima run out for a pack of smokes,,," then you head for the hills never to be heard from again.
Don't have a clue what that metal thing is.
If it makes you both feel better, then it's best possible choice.
My inserts should be here this week because I don't want the run-flats in the new tires. I've been driving ~43 years and have had one flat tire. Friend and I were doing a speed-run down some farm road outside Travis AFB round...
I was at half a tank so after work I drove over to Bangor base and filled up at the diesel pump there. Nearby is a short set of trails so I headed over to play around a bit. There's one stretch of short uphill that's deeply rutted and I was surprised the HMMWV stopped, like stopped forward...
I can't believe anyone is moving *to* CA
Anyway, watch craigslist, chains are always available. If you have absolutely no intention of ever using them no matter the conditions, buy the cheapest set of cable-chains you can find even if they don't fit.
If you think you might use them...
I replaced the plugs on mine - only three of the eight were doing anything if I remember right - and the truck started great with the new plugs for about 300 miles, then it began to get harder and harder to start as time went on (temps in the mid 40s). Ultimately it wouldn't start at all and...
Try removing one from another gauge and making your own. It shouldn't be much work to replicate with ordinary tools and some scrap.
But, I'm sure someone has one.
