The 524 goes with the older VIC-1 system The VIC-3 and VIC-3 lite go with the newer radios but I believe they can work as a stand alone system without a radio. I'll let him reply regarding cost.

86 humv has Vic 3 systems complete some times. lite series and full size Others have gone with non military style systems. Are you trying to incorporate it with any military radios? The VIC 1 system is the older version for the 524 series radios.

Agreed. once you open the inspection plug on transfer case it will be very obvious. if your getting red colored fluid out of your air filter housing it's even more obviously you have a broken cooler loop (Vampire Problem)

that gold thing should have a couple wires coming out of it. they should plug into a small black rectangular box located right next to it. see if that connection is being made or if they are not plugged in

that gold thing is the Cadillac valve. It has to do with the fan . I believe that front hose goes down to the fan clutch. You probably need to bleed the whole system and check fluid levels.
