Ok, just wanted to make a post about my experience with this problem.
The symptoms: Air shift valve would spray oil out the little vent holes on the side (on side more than the other) when flipping it to "out." And it would slowly ooze gear oil after shut down.
First I tried taking the...
My deuce came with one of the funky on/off wiper control knobs.
So I pulled the knob and valve, and it is definitely not a needle valve. It's some kind of on/off ball valve, I think. Never worked really well, tho. Lots of slop in it, so it would never completely close.
Swapped it out for...
At least, I can't find it. I pulled the tunnel cover... the only thing I can see that might have been a vent location is just forward of the shifter boot, there's what looks like a small plug.
Is that the location and they just put a plug in it, for some reason?
Or is it someplace else?
Where do you stow your large tow bar on a deuce? I'm talking about the next size up from the medium.
Is there some way to bolt it to the side of the bed without modifying the truck or would I have to make a set of brackets for it?
Yeah yeah, I know, "just put it in the bed"... but man, it's...
One line appears to run from the air system "T" mounting under the dash. The other line appears to be a copper line running from a hole in the firewall.
I read in another thread that if you have a problem with gear oil venting through the lever, you should clean the transfer case vent and then...
Ok, I've seen plenty of talk about LED headlights and tail lights... but how about interior lighting?
What I'm thinking about going for is some dim red LEDs for low-level interior lighting. Just enough to see what I'm doing if I need to rummage for something on the passenger seat or the floor...
I bought one of those lots of towbars out of pineville a few months back. Had several of the "large" towbars, some with feet. And it had several of the "hold my beer while I give myself a hernia" towbars. Also, some with feet.
The "large" ones have 1" pin holes where the feet attach to the...
Ok, I've got various grease and oil on parts that I want to clean off so I can start fresh and get an idea of what's leaking.
This goes for both the engine compartment and directly under the engine. The oil pan has oil on it, various lines have oil/grease on them, etc... I want to clean...
Yes, another crazy idea, I realize.
But could it be done? What all would you have to do?
Drill and tap ports for new injectors, find suitable injectors, get a new electronic IP for the injectors...
Assume money was no object. What would be the result of such a project? What kind of...
I'm talking about two otherwise identical trucks, both running at 2100 engine rpm.
How much of a fuel mileage disadvantage does the 395 have from being somewhat wider than the 1100r20s?
What kind of fuel mileage are you guys in your singled out deuces getting?
We all love the ability to pour just about anything that burns in there... but the thing I constantly see is "My deuce is soooo wimpy!"
Well... yes. ~130 HP is what we have to live with. Unless you turn up the fuel a bit. But that will only take you so far before you run the risk of...
Why not?
One of the big problems with installing air conditioning in a deuce (and CUCVs) seems to be figuring out a way to mount the compressor to run it off the engine.
So why not just mount the compressor pretty much anywhere you want and couple it to a continuous duty electric motor? You...
I know this sounds crazy, but has anyone ever swapped an 816 wrecker bed, with crane and winch, onto a deuce?
Is it even doable? How hard would it be? How much does all that stuff weigh? Would it make the deuce overly top heavy? Would the deuce even be able to handle the weight and still...
A guy down the road from me stopped by the house yesterday with 4 military michelin 1100 r 20s in the back of his pickup... wanted to sell them to me at $150 apiece. They were already on the rims. The rims looked like military split rims. 6 bolt hole pattern, just like a standard 9.00 r 20...
I've been cruising craigslist for a replacement transmission and I found one that says it's an "electronic TH-400"
Huh?
It also says it is a "lockup tranny." What is that? Does it have to do with how it attaches to the transfer case?
The last deuce I bought (fort sill) had dead batteries, so mkcoen and I swapped them out at Fort Sill and drove all the way back (500 miles!)
Every time I start the truck, I flip the switch get a low-pitched air buzzer noise (not the normal noise, but a noise that sounds like the batteries are...
I know they won't fit in the bed of the 105, but I'm wondering if the bed could be taken off and the tank skids mounted directly to the frame?
Has anyone done this or something like it? I'm not married to the idea of putting it on a 105, but the price on 105s is certainly very cheap right now...
The lady at Fort Sill sounded doubtful about me being able to drive it out the gate but I've seen and heard of alot of trucks that just needed minor TLC like brake bleeding, a little air pressure to break the WCs loose, new batts, etc...
I live about 500 miles away, so if someone local with...
Background:
Got a 1009 off GL a few months ago. It has no starter. So I borrowed a friend's (broken housing) to bolt up temporarily just to test the engine.
How do I know which cables hook up to which posts on the starter? In the TM, it says "when replacing, take note of which cable goes...
