Is it binding when it is not in 4wd?
I had bad hubs that were locked in all of the time and would bind up in sharp turns on pavement. It took a new set of hubs to get me going right.
I checked with some friends at 4 wheel parts in marietta and they said a 4 inch kit with brake lines and steering goes for 450. install is 425.
this does not include the crossover steering.

It was my understanding that the 1028 got overloads to boost them to 9400 pounds from the 1008's 8800 pounds. this would allow for more weight in the bed or a heavier trailer tounge. The GVWR is the weight of the truck, cargo, passenger, and trailer tounge maxed out.
The 700r4 swap is much easier to do. The 700r4 and the 400 are about the same length. Driveshafts won't need to be changed. You can get the TV cable and kickdown brackets from a boneyard civvy blazer, truck, or burb with the 6.2 and 700r4.

Looks like the manual says 84 is different. if there is a key in between the nut and spindle, it would explain a few things. I gotta see if I have a #4-40 screw laying around.
Here is a pic. I have a bunch of the normal nut sets laying around and was gonna change them out. I tried hitting the nut with a punch and hammer, but no go. might have to make a little tool to get these things off.

My 1009 came with a Warn winch plate on the front. It was bent like a pretzel and had pieces of red taillight in it. No winch, but it must have been a hard hit to bend steel plate like it did.

I just installed ac60g plugs in my 1009 today. I changed the ends on the harness to match the new plugs. I figure it will need more at some point and they will be the fat spade connector.
GL has a handful of m1009s in warner robbins, ga that are really picked over. Most of them have nice tubs and not much else. They should go cheap. I have swapped tubs before and it isn't as hard as you might think.
