Thanks for the story. I would have crapped my pants at first sign of trouble! Your mechanical skills are commendable. Congrats on your purchase(s) and how does the trailer tow with the truck? Do you even feel it back there? Just wondering what capability the trailer adds, since the truck has so...
Wouldn't the APC be much more capable in the snow than the truck? I think I am missing something, but maybe you had to trailer the APC to the rental location?
EDIT...
I think I get it now, the deuce and a half was in your way, you had to move it... I can only imagine puckering up on that hill...
That is awesome! When I saw the photo of the jeep with the tow line I had to chuckle. But then realized it was a bee hive pull, with a lot of buzzing bees at work. Glad you got her out. Thankfully, this was not a low tide, high tide ordeal... that would have made things very dicey.
Got it. I saw the little holes near the perimeter of the wheel on the M16 photos and thought they were the correct wheels, but now see you are right, they are not. I wonder if there is more to it than just a different rim, could the hubs be different as well? Just thinking that bolt pattern and...
Well, the biggest issue I see with functionality as armor in emergency (I'm not talking running down zombies, but if people are shooting at you), is the unprotected radiator. Armored vehicles have the engine bay enclosed and Half Tracks for example had movable armored louvers so you can keep...
Can I ask what the point is of an armored 5 ton? Do you need armor for looks/fun or is there some kind of functionality involved (heading to South America for narco-tourism?).
I am interested in collecting armor, so I get the routine, I just can't understand why a 5 ton.
Pennsylvania law requires any vehicle operated on public highway (highway is defined as essentially any street) to be registered, with some exemptions. The statute is here:
http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms/vehicle_code/chapter13.pdf If a vehicle must be registered, it has to have plates...
Too many acronyms for me, but are you asking about fiddling with engine management computer to make more horsepower? I have seen that done by various tuners for sports cars. I did not think that was even possible with these low tech diesels. Is it?
A wise man oce said, "It's better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission." Just tell tbe wife you can get more money selling parts than you paid for it. Oh and that you might need to get another truck for parts, just to fix this one, but if she really objects you'll just stick with the one...
I don't know of any, but make sure they will work on 24V. I assume most would be designed for 12V systems. Other issue is if tbe LED puts out too many lumens, you may be blinding everyone. The 5 tons have headlights probably 2 feet higher than those on a regular car.
If you can post a link, would love to see it. I could not find it.
I did find out today that the M16 I am considering buying left the factory as a an M13 (dual 50 cal turret), but was converted to an M16 around 1943. Its production #pegs it as M13. Wikipedia says half M13 production was...
I recall a story about an Israeli pilot landing his F15 with no wing at all, after colliding mid air. Plane started to spin, pilot used afterburner to stabilize. Full story with interview of the pilot, who survived and landed...
