I have a complete transmission pulled out of a 1984 M923A1 with a bad low gear. Perhaps I could pull out the part for you. The transmission failed, according to an Allison engineer, because the govt put 15W40 in it instead of ATF which does not perform at -20 degrees. The transmission had...
Your point is well taken.
I didn't know anything about it when I brought the truck home.
IT WILL NOT LEAVE THE STORAGE YARD UNTIL THE CAGING BOLTS ARE ON THE FLOOR OF THE TRUCK where I found two others.
Thank you for your concern and willingness to speak up. I think that this is something...
I have held off doing anything about the brakes, looking for a place that would do the work for me; no luck.
I found out today, the day before Thanksgiving, that my contract will end on next Friday, Nov. 5th. I did a Google search and guess what I found...
I don't need to feed a batallion, but more sleeping area would be good since the 109 is for my wife and me. I am considering pulling out some of the kitchen equipment and making it a pop-up sleeper-kitchen.
Also either getting a custom tent or modifying one to attach it to the side of the...
My M109 can barely get itself around town, at this altitued (5280 ft) without a turbo. It is really sick pulling my MKT-85:
That's why I bought my M923A1:
Now that I got its transmission replaced (lost low gear back because of 15W40 oil instead of ATF and -20 degree weather), I intend to...
Something you might want to keep in mind is your deuce will run pretty well on the IP boost if the in-tank pump is dead but ONLY if the fuel lines DO NOT have air in them.
If you open filters up, etc, be prepared to exacerbate the problem by letting air in if the problem is your main fuel...
Some time ago there was a movie, Pete 'n' Tilly staring Carol Burnett and Walter Matthau, where they had a neighbor who continuously bragged about the gas mileage his VW Bug was getting. Pete and his dying son decided to sneak over and add a little gas every few nights and laughed hysterically...
There is a Harley owner up the street from me about 2 houses and an intersection away. While I falling out of bed in the morning, I often hear his Harley start, but not rev up. It sits there rumbling real low, then he takes off, shifting early so as not to hit his pipes. If I ever see him...
Great use for a good truck!!
RE posting #10, I like how you handled the exhaust. I'm planning to put an M109 box on mine and state law says that the exhaust must exit behind the passenger compartment. I have been wondering how I might solve the problem.
I know this has been talked about, I DID do a search and I was on one of the threads, but I have a slightly different question, so read on before you blast me.
On my M923A1 the left rear-most brake pack, for lack of the correct name, has a leak that is progressing fast. I work on the beast on...
Let me know when you role through Denver, unless you take the Northern route. Rifle, CO is my old stomping grounds. Today I call Aurora, CO east of Denver home, though I still call myself a Western Sloper.
Personally, I would recommend you use I-70 then I-25 because you will be near...
Phil2968, Thanks for pulling up that old thread. I have an M109 with a non-turbo that just can't cut it at altitude. I bought an M923 and plan to put the box from the 109 on it, maybe bob it.
Another thought is to leave the 923 full length. The 109 box is 12' and the bed on the 923 is 14'...
In the 15th CEB we had 4 APCs with flame throwers like Navy river boats had. They were a bit maintenance intensive, particularly the seals between the flame thrower and the tanks. The Navy was real good to us. We had a yard on the edge of our base, Dong Tam, where they draggedd in their...
My Commando is a '70 frame and drive train. The original body got totaled and I was in the process of putting a '68 pickup body on it when we lost our shop space, right after we sandblasted it. I got a full length top at a junkyard.
I'm encouraged to put the pickup top on mine and paint it...
When I bought my deuce I found that working on it is a lot like the Jeeps and Fords I have worked on, except 50% bigger. The M923 is a whole different animal; not just bigger but different. I have some minor back brake problems and it looks like I'm gonna have to pay to have the chambers...
I believe you are absolutely right.
That model of Commando (short hood) was manufactured from about 1967 to 1971. I've owned 2 of them and still have one in pieces parked behind my MKT-85 trailer. I'm at the wrong computer or I'd add some pictures of mine, but here's one I Googled.
A...
It's like comparing a Ford Ranger to an F250 Heavy Duty.
Before you buy a 923, try one out. It has a terrible turning radius. I won the bid on mine site-unseen. When I picked it up, I was flabbergasted at how big it is.
This is my 6' 4" son standing in front of it.
When I brought my M923 home from Ft. Benning, GA to Denver, CO I drained the batteries by leaving a switch on over night in Dallis, TX. I had a charder, the one in the picture, but I was too far from the grid to plug it in. I bought a small generator at Harbor Freight and I can now recharge...
