What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I got my '84 M923A1 with 18,000 miles emissions tested and was told "It's sure a clean old girl!" Then I had the VIN inspected and found out that GL screwed up the VIN on the SF-97. Another 30 days waiting on paperwork!!

    In-tank fuel pump

http://www.occorp.com/?page=Pumps I put one in my deuce a couple of years ago after trying everything to avoid the $250, including a suck-n-spit inline pump for $75. It was a waste of money because it couldn't put out the needed volume, so I finally bit the bullet and did it right. The $250...

    .

I've seen those on the Military Channel. Sure looks like it can get the job done. Before I opened the thread I was thinking that towing a trailer through a mine field didn't sound too bright!

    M35A2 fuel pump question.

I take it that you are doing this because the pump quit? Mine was DOA when I got my M109, but it would run on the injector boost pump, at least until I got air in the lines by running it out of fuel. I tore mine apart and found that the motor was shot. The first problem is that it is welded...

    Colorado MVCC Rally

My wife cleared the date and even got me an appointment to get the VIN verified and the emissions tested on the truck! That means I'll have tags by the 25th! I haven't been able to do that because my truck got towed the last 16 miles of its recovery. She did groan, however (putting it mildly)...

    Potential Rocky Mtn Rally

Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado (MVCC) has filalized the date for their rally and I definately encourage SS members to consider it: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?123509-Colorado-MVCC-Rally&highlight= It's in a nice part of the country and close to Denver. Should be...

    M939 Series Videos

Thanks MuleMac01 for your video post !!! They are not kidding when they say these trucks do not handle the way one might expect !!! I drove my M923A1 from Ft. Benning, GA to Dallas, TX, then on to Denver, CO, 1800 miles in all. My truck is equipped with ABS brakes and, presumably, the...

    Colorado MVCC Rally

I would like to be included in your plans and I would be bringing my M923A1, on which I just finished replacing the transmission. I also have an MKT-85 which is complete and in near-new condition, except for burners. You can ask Jon (Steelandcanvas) about it; he helped me set it on its butt...

    engine alternatives for the deuce?

Another reason is to go to a gasser is top speed. The reason the deuce has such a crazy shift pattern was that transmission and axle ratio combination was originally designed for an engine that could wrap higher than 3000 RPM. To go from gas to diesel they left what used to be 5th alone...

    Colorado MVCC Rally

Jon, Your rally sounds interesting, but that's the weekend before my son's wedding and my truck isn't really ready. I've been unable to get it inspected because until Thursday id didn’t run. My wife’s in the hospital with a serious leg infection and I’m not sure how much she will be able...

    Potential Rocky Mtn Rally

When I started this thread I was planning to have my 923 fixed up as an off-road camper by June 1, but then the transmission blew out the low gear pack.I just got it running this week.My son is getting married Aug 3, so this summer is pretty well taken up.If someone is coming through this area...

    Deuce held hostage

Well, they've flown the nest! Momma bird did her job. Thursday I took off work early to work on my 5 ton and went to check on the nest. No chicks, no bodies on the ground, so I think they flew away. I'd show you the picture of the empty nest, but I can’t get this website to upload the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

MY M923 MOVED UNDER ITS OWN POWER!! After months of weekend efforts to change the transmission I got it done. Long story short, the government puts 15w40 in the transmission which is okay in warm weather, but not in extreme cold. I blew out the low gear pack at -20 degrees f., 16 miles from...

    Deuce held hostage

' Don't know. Mamma bird is fast to exit the area! She seems to be about the same color as her chicks and maybe a little smaller than a pigeon. When she exited the nest she flew level through an 18" gap between my M105 trailer and a commercial trailer.

    M923A2 ring gear

Ditto, Except for the fact that GL had taken all M939 series trucks off the auctions, I would tell you to cruise GL. $4500 in no bargain, even for a "Truck was driven onto the lot" truck, much less one with some wierd problem.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

After litterally months spent acquiring a replacement transmission for my M923A1, which lost first gear in 20 below temperatures, getting it transported to within 50 miles, going to pick it up in my nice and tidy M101A2 trailer (along with two replacement tires on wheels), digging a hole under...

    Deuce held hostage

On June 7 we used my M109 deuce to move our MKT around and noticed a nest with two eggs in the boarding ladder in the back rack. After having the truck out of its space for two hours we put the trailer and truck back. On June 28 I was poking around behind the deuce and Momma left the nest like...

    Potential Rocky Mtn Rally

Interest lately has been a bit thin and my M923 is non-functional. I have been spending the time, money and effort I had budgeted for the task of putting my M109 box onto the M923 into a transmission swap. When I can make more permanent plans, I will go back through this thread and contact...

    deuce fuel pump relocation

One advantage it might be (for M109s anyway) is that you don't have to drop the tank to get the pump out. On an M109 there isn't enough space between the bed and the tank to get the pump clear out. You might be able to dissassemble the pump, but I didn't try that.
