Can some tell me some basic M35A2 rear hub dimensions:
Hub length:
flange thickness:
short side length:
long side length:
hub body minor diameter:
Thanks in advance!
Blowing out seals? Yes. Axle damage... No, thank god! It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that cantilevering the load outward of the bearings is not a good thing.
Here is my experience with it (notice the rear wheels are the same offset as the front on biased outward)... and i am...
Hopefully you are aware that running "super-singles" that way puts undo cantilever load on the hub bearings. Your first sign of failure will be leakage from the inside seals. Second sign ... Well, lets not go there!
"Doing it right" is SOOOOOOOOO much easier on military vehicles! Why not flip...
A question for you guys that have swapped your drum brakes for disc brakes... Are the REALLY any better than drum brakes???
I am advancing quickly on my hybrid rear axle and have to decide whether I am going to bail on my 15" x 8" dual circuit drum brakes for 15" dual circuit disc brakes...
I pulled one of the hubs off a spare FDS-75 front axle I have laying around then reversed engineered & modeled it. I am now going to ge a hold of a H-172 hub and suss the bearing bores out. Hopefully I be able to find bearing that will have the same ID as the H-172 and OD as the FDS-75 Hub. That...
I've done a bit of research regarding "turning-up" the pump on a C motor becuase I have one in my FMTV prototype (the picture below my name). I've read and tend to believe (as much as I dare from info on the internet) that there is no problem with swapping the fuel plate... But most people don't...
Medium Heavy Duty trucks had "6 Lug Budds" rims/ hubs in the 1980's so that is the good part. The bad part is that I did a CAD drawing of the front and rear axle widths and the M35A3 rims biased in on the front and out on the rears... And they would be 2.43" more narrow in the rear (add cuss...
Correct! If you look at the first picture of my truck, you will see that the offset of the front rims are "in-board", and the rear wheels are "out-board"... but the track of the front and rear wheels are the same. Thus, if I want to have the rear wheels biased (off-set) in-board (like a M35A3...
Hey Guys! I am trying to configure a hybrid rear axle for Casa Azul so that the flange face distance would be the same as my civilian Rockwell front drive axle (FDS-75 @ 90" face to face). I receintly purchased 5 M35A3 rims that i will be running Conti MPT-81's on, and desire to have all the...
I sure that i'm going to get GRIEF for this (just like i did when warning about over-weight concerns on Unimogs)...
But the only time discs are better than drums is when there is really wet conditions. A lot of that can be mitigated by drilling your drums.
This is of course when you are not...
Just so you guys with Allison issues don't feel alone...Here is the HORROR that i went through with my prototype LMTV,

But out of the "dark cloud" came a person that is NOT the silver lining!
When it comes to ANYTHING...
Thinking about it, I don't feel that i was concise enough when speaking of the weight limitations of Mogs. What I meant to say was...
Overloading a Unimog has the potential for sever financial consequences for the owner. Much more so than a domestic commercial or military truck.
You get no...
As I said previously...The U500 is a completely different animal! I was speaking more specificly about the U1XXX and earlier series, even though the owner of the only U500 Unicat did swap out his springs for heavier ones. "Expedition" campers are almost always are at or over the MGVW...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Mogs at all! I would not be surprised if I add a U1X50L to my "collection" one of these years. As far as the 406's go, I think they are a neat "cult" truck...but not a vehicle to make into a "real" extended-stay adventure vehicle.
There is no doubt that...

I would remove one rear axle and place the single rear axle at the furthest back you can and still have a single drive shaft (no...
