shortening exhaust stack- good idea?

whoops! just noticed this is the mods forum now: I'm trying to get around some logistics of storing the deuce. It needs to go under at least a carport to be insured by Hagerty. BUT, the only problem is the carport design I came up with can only be tall enough to clear the cab (the garage it...

    winch bumper vs regular bumper

I got to looking- is a winch bumper just the stock bumper turned upside down? I'd think so since I never see bumpers for sale with winch kits

    hardtops- pros and cons?

for those who have them, particularly those that upgraded at a later date, what do you think of the hardtop? Many pics I have seen show them with rust and that turns me off. Not only cause the rust but because they look really heavy can...

where do the blackout lights go?

just curious- I don't recall seeing many (or any) deuces with blackout lights? What's the standard position front and rear for these? thanks!

curious what your title says- Kaiser or Jeep?

in getting insurance quotes and talking with DMV and just in general speaking with people, the fact that this truck I'm getting is a "Kaiser" really throws them off. Does the title say Jeep or Kiaser? On the tax exemption form Alex sent down, it said Jeep so I was just curious what all your...

    homemade flange question

hello all, Alex sent me down this flange to use as a pattern for my homemade front disconnects. The question I had was what is the lip for, and is it OK to not duplicate it? I assume so, but since I don't have a front end...

    11x20 vs 9x20 direct comparison

anybody have side shots of their truck before and after if you've swapped? Also, what RPM difference did you see in top gear, top speed? From what I gather the difference is about 4 inches in height, so about an extra 300 RPM's you have to go. What does that equate to in speed? thanks. I...

do I need a BIIIG toolkit?

you know, kind of like that godfather's commerical, can I have a biig cookie? anyways...... what size range of tools do you need on these things. I go up to 1 1/2" in 1/2" drive but I assume I'll need bigger or am I just angling for...

it's official! (almost) a proud owner!

I put my deposit down on deuce #186 at Idaho Motor Pool today. Will most likely pick it up late fall. Can't wait! Thanks for all you guys' help in making my decision, it's great to be able to ask all the questions you can before getting in over your head <img...

MSRP and registration costs and GVW

hey all, I am estimating my DMV fees and several factors make a big difference in cost- What was the original MSRp on these things? Also, some had said their titles say GVW of 12,000 pounds, others 23,800? Does it all depend on who you catch at DMV and how *naive* they are? The truck...

    M35A2's overseas

of all the M35's made, where were they sent? How many remained stateside versus shipped overseas? How many came back versus left there? Can you tell a specific truck's history by its VIN, or is that a lost cause? just wondering...

single rear wheel max truck width?

when you single rear wheel the deuce does it bring the overall width of the truck down? If you can get it to about 7 1/2 foot that would be good I'm trying to fit it in a 10 foot driveway but still have room to maneuver it and walk...

    speaking of comp/collision.......

how do you make sure nobody steals your rig if there's no key? I assume the doors lock (I hope)? If not I think I'll retrofit a locking handle at least. DOes the hood lock?

    20,000 pound capacity?

I was reading a back issue of MV Magazine on the pros and cons of owning a deuce. The author said you could safely carry 20,000 pounds. Anybody ever put this to the test or should you just stick with 10,000?

    canvas size for M35 bed?

I'd bet it's 16 x 18 or so? On my truck I used a 10x12 and rolled up the sides, and plan to do that when I get the deuce (bigger of course, but make my own bows out of steel tube and stretch a standard tarp over) how tall up, measured from the bed rails, does the standard troop carrier stand...

    ABSOLUTE max tire height

can you fit 14x20 singles on a deuce? and is it safe to assume the first number is the sidewall height, then you add that x2 to the rim height. It looks that way if 9x20's are 38" and 14x20's are 48", so that would make an 11x20 42"? thanks

    official GVW?

for all those who've registered deuces, what is the official GVW? Is it listed on an inspection plate on the truck, or the title or what? I think I'm home free since in NV CDL's are required for 26,000 or over, and smogs are required for 10,000 pounds and under. Even with the 10k capacity...

jeep in the back of a deuce, but a truck.....?

anybody ever fit a Chevy truck in the back of a deuce, like a dropside probably? I want to put my shortbed "CUCV" in the back if need be. I'm thinking either the front bumper would need to come off, or an extension would need to be built. We'll see <img...

telling 1C from 1D at a quick glance

can it be done? What exactly should you look for? Also, any easy ways to tell different years apart? the 1C is more desirable right since they changed a bunch on the D for emissions? thanks
