Just got the winch back from the machine shop. Ended up having to press the tapped inserts into the aluminum housing after drilling out the stuck bolts.
The work looks good, and the shop guaranteed there won't be any issues with the inserts coming out.
A little more expensive than I was...
Update, y'all. Took the winch to my local machine shop, since I just couldn't get the studs out. The manager told me they would try to heat it and use an Easy-Out. If that didn't work, they were going to try to weld some steel onto the broken studs and try that.
If all else fails, they are...
Heated the bolts up pretty good this morning using MAPP and oxygen, probably warmed them up 30-45 seconds at one point, after 15 seconds didn't work.
Still not budging at all, and I am not a weakling. Using a large wrench to turn the easy-out and nothing happens.
I may just forfeit and bring...
Well, as the owner of an older CJ, I haven't come across this yet, but I guess that is because I am fairly new to Jeeps.
What I can say is that I have come across a bunch of fights over GL1 vs. GL5 in CJ transfer cases and transmissions, much like what I see here.
Guess I will have to read up...
I have one mounted in my old CJ. I have been able to fit the following in it:
AR (both the rifle and the carbine), M1A, 03 Springfield, Mossberg 590, and FAL. I believe a Garand would fit also, (hope to get one of those soon).
A lot of this, of course, depends on the vehicle and how the rack...
That's what I don't understand in my case right now. The doggone bolts seem to be rusted in, and won't budge. Is it possible for a steel bolt to rust to an aluminum block? It's got me really stumped.

I am having a similar problem today, I took my winch off to change out the seals. Once I got the winch off the truck, started taking the bolts off the straps that hold it together. Lo and behold, both bolts on the PTO (drivers) side sheared off right at the top. These are the top strap bolts...
Pulled my winch yesterday to change out one of the seals. The clutch side had a pretty significant leak. So far, so good. Not as hard as I thought it would be, I guess it really helps to have a chain hoist to deal with the weight. I may just tear the winch down further to see if anything...
Probably won't be too long before something like that happens here. I keep my Deuce parked in the driveway next to my daily driver, but the thieves are getting braver. Just during the week they broke into the local Piggly Wiggly by going through the roof. They even tried to disable the alarm...
The more I see of Deuces that are just one color, the more I like it. Now I can't decide which I like better, the regular OD, or the end of WWII to early Vietnam color.
I think the lettering and the white star really make it look good, though.
It's gonna be tough making a choice if I ever get...
I already have a single mount (got it in a set, mounted the other one on the dash of my CJ). Gonna try to mount the double as shown here, near the stickshift, then the other single I might mount next to the drivers door. Or maybe the passenger door, gotta see which is best.

Just during this week there were a few A2's at Camp Beauregard, which is only an hour from me. I previewed them at the beginning of the week, and knew which ones were the good ones from the rust buckets.
I have to believe there are people out there with money and apparently no time to do some...
Jeep-jeep, glad to hear you made it OK, was the route to your liking? How was the traffic?
I did a preview on the A2's that were sold earlier this week, most of them looked pretty rough, I ended up not bidding on any, although a couple of them were probably decent and wouldn't take too much...
Yep, I just walked into the living room a few minutes ago and caught the tail end, they had just offered him $11K and he balked.
I didn't see enough of it to realize it was a hack job.

Hey Reggie (and other Acadiana SS members):
Maybe we can all meet up somewhere around Lafayette and form a convoy to head on over. For me it's a 20 mile ride to Opelousas on the back roads and then down I-49 to Lafayette.
I am sure some of the members here can show us the way. If we can't...
OK, guess it's time to quit being chicken and jump in.
I have the following for sale or trade:
40mm Grenade ammo cans - quite a few
.50 caliber ammo cans - even more of these
Medical equipment / supplies transit cases (the aluminum ones roughly 30"x12"x18". Some have the small parts drawers...
