Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

So I started messing with the injectors, trying to narrow down what cylinder it was missing on. And I decided to check the oil just because of the knock I heard. Well, it's glittery. So I don't know if the top end has a tight valve or if something is coming apart inside, but it's definitely...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

I'll give that a shot, definitely couldn't hurt anything.

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

So in case this helps anyone, I got the quote from my John Deere dealer. NOTE: there are two part numbers for pumps. This part number is the updated part number. I'm still awaiting quotes from others, and may just have a local shop rebuild it, but if JD gives me a good warranty then that would...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Seems like these things are just hard to tell in video. My friend and I were sitting about 100' away behind a connex when it started making the noise. We both heard it loud and clear as soon as it started. We looked at each other and he said "That doesn't sound good" lol. I must have gotten...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Sounds to me like a wrecked fuel pump. Maybe a plugged injector caused a plunger to break or something? I'm thinking 4 injectors and a pump unless someone has a better idea. It doesn't sound quite like rod knock to me... Oil pressure was in the 40psi range

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Ugh I swear, it's like I can't catch a break with this thing. All I want is for it to be reliable for the field.... Listen for yourself

    Control Panel Light Bulbs

So I called 1000bulbs.com, they're great people and I've bought from them before. Miranda in sales looked and she couldn't get one in green, but she tracked one down from the competition and sent me a link to it. I'll order some next week and see how it works out. Here is the link to the green bulbs

    Control Panel Light Bulbs

Thanks for that info. I will do some digging and see if I can come up with a source

    Control Panel Light Bulbs

I'd like to have green just because green keeps it original. BUT I wouldn't mind some clears until I can locate green as I do not have any spares at the moment.

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

I don't think it came out in video the same as it does in person. Digital media, am I right? But it definitely is a HUGE noticeable difference. I even got a second opinion to make sure I was not crazy and he heard it too in person. I'm excited to get the power panel built and put this thing into...

    Control Panel Light Bulbs

Does anyone have a readily available part number for light bulbs for the control panels for our generator sets? From what I can tell they are all the same. Just looking for something I can pick up locally or order online in a bulk pack. For my 802A and 805B

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Well, I took the right hand side panel off (passenger side) and took off the metal screen for the generator head fan assembly. Low and behold, there were only 3 or 4 bolts in the flywheel and I took them out with my fingers, not even a socket needed to spin them out. I fished the rest out of the...

    MEP-805A flash field trouble!

Also, I have an 805B, not sure if they share the same voltage regulator and all of that but I can send pics or take readings on mine should you need something to compare to. But my guess is the TM's have all you'll need

    MEP-805A flash field trouble!

Maybe when you flash the field it's going into overspeed? turn the Hz all the way down and try to flash again?

3 phase power distribution for field operations

Here's a quick and dirty sketch of how I want my board to look with all the electrical boxes on it. The two 50 amps on the top left are for a welder and compressor should it be needed, the third is a 50 amp RV plug. Followed by 3x 30 amp RV plugs, then a 30 amp twistlock and two 50 amp...

3 phase power distribution for field operations

Good to know, I was wondering about that. Figured on grounding the gen, and grounding the panel as well. I will just ground the gen and leave the buss bar in place. I found a load panel I think I'm going to go with. I'm in paint 3d right now drawing up the backboard to figure on how many outlets...

Bought an MEP-805B, started messing with it

Thank you for the advice, I will definitely give that a shot! Hopefully that's all it is. I live up near Chaparral. There is a new newish neighborhood they built here in 2011 that I live in. I basically live right outside of McGregor range about 4 miles south of the state line off hwy 54...

    MEP-805A flash field trouble!

I think your frequency meter is messed up. The one on my 802A is bad too. Do you have a multimeter with a hertz function on it? You need to check voltages and freq at the convenience outlets with one to see where we're at.

    MEP-805A flash field trouble!

When you go to start the unit, after then engine has fired, do you release the start switch? Or do you hold it for a few seconds? My understanding is that you're supposed to hold it in the start position for up to 5 seconds or so to flash the field on startup and all of that.
