Thanks for the help guys! I bit the bullet, dropped the bellhousing, built up the bellhousing - trans - xfer group and put it up. All fit well, now I just have to reconnect all the levers, linkages, shafts, and other gingerbread. I appreciate the guidance.
Thank you, I was afraid I might have to pull it off to put the xfer case on.....darn. I still am not sure how to put the fork on and still get the input shaft through the hole in the bellhousing though. Oh well, I will give it a try.
For the M38A1, Does anyone have a drawing or picture of the transmission crossmember mount? I took my trans and transfer out as a unit and sent it in (to a shop for overhauling) with the crossmember still attached. I got it back as seperate pieces. The studs on the crossmember motor mount are...
When GVW is fixed by the builder, it is based on allowable weight per tire/wheel combo, suspension specifications and axle specifications (including brakes). There is no argument that a duel axle truck will be assigned a higher GVW than the identical truck with one rear axle removed. The...
Another option, depending on how many days/year you drive it. Buy a few 3 day trip permits (at about $25 ea.) If you only drive it a few weekends per year, you could come out money ahead and not have to declare GVW, pay weight fees, excise taxes, etc.
I should have specified that if you want to see the pictures, you will have to PM me your email address and I will email you the invite to see the pictures.
I am finally starting my repower. I intend to install the Isuzu 4BD2 with an Isuzu 5 sp manual trans., Snake river 4X4 power steering and front disc brakes (probably from Helitool). I am starting a photo album of this project on Google Picasa 3. I am making this invite only (as opposed to...
thanks and I called Herm
Thanks for the kind words, but the jeep was in this nice condition when I bought it. I would love to take the credit, but I do enjoy it. I called Herm today and am going to have him go through my trans and transfer. Thanks for pointing me his way.
I am new to this site and have to say that I am having a devil of a time getting signed in. The site does not like my email or screename or password or something. This time I had to go to my email, reply to the notice of a reply to my post and then "reply to mail" to get signed in. Anyhow, I...
My 53 M38A1 tranny is in need of an overhaul. Are kits available complete with seals, bearings and gears/syncros as needed? Is there a good shop that would rebuild mine or sell me a completely overhauled unit on an exchange basis? Will it hurt the value of my stock military rig to swap in a...
