Great setup. For people worried about capacity, I have a friend with a M818 with gin poles like these run off the rear of his truck. It has a tall grill guard that the winch cable runs over (through a snatch block) and up to the poles. The winch cable clears the cab easily and the stabilizer...
I always thought if you had rear singles, you could do something likt the skidsteers do on the rear with slip on tracks. Great for traction and not 30K
Thanks for the info. I'm just surprised that the deuce and 5 ton are so close in size (and strength), especially when you factor in that the standard 5 ton is considerably longer.
I know it's been covered before, but I cant find it. Why is it that you can't just rob the entire system (box, pump, column, steering wheel, ect.) off of a M54 (or similar) truck? If the axles are similar in width and the frame is a similar size, what make it not work?
Couldn't agree more. If the 2.5 ton is 8 x 3 by 5/16" I would be very surprised if the 5 ton was 9 x 3 by 5/16".
Does anyone have the dims? or maybe a truck to measure? :-D
Couldn't agree more! Without trying to get over technical, when torqued properly, bolts actually stretch slightly and remain elastic like a spring- so they are constantly pulling the bolted member together with massive force, just like a compressed spring does. When you over-torque a bolt, you...
BFR, here are the pics. This knuckle boom is rated at 14,500 lbs and has a max length of 32', so the mount is a little beefier then what you'll need. The boom transfers 100% of the load to the sides of the frame and has no hole through the top web. Each side is held on by 12- 3/4" bolts...
I'm familiar with DOM, but since rectangular DOM in fairly uncommon (but it is out there) and no wall thickness is listed I wanted a little clarification.
Adding material to the top of the frame will help spread a vertical load, like a knucleboom or top mounted winch, and dissipate the...
The more info the better! I really agree that 1 1200 gallon is way unsafe; it’s just too much in one tank. Since I already have the current skid mounted tank, maybe by adding two additional smaller tanks side by side in the front of the bed (on behind the driver, one behind the passenger) the...
Thanks for all the info. These trucks were defiantly under rated because you never know what some 18 year old will do to a free truck that isn't his, but following these rating AND using a little discretion will make these last a long time. I'm thinking that if it is rated to safely carry...
I know, I remembered you posting the pics so I looked it up for the link. Sweet setup! I'm not really surprised 395's outperform them, you do lose the extra spares and can't just drive on a flat, but get more road speed and bigger lugs offroad. Both beat the heck out of the NDT's. My deuce...
