That depends. Most civilian K30s don't have 4:56s. CUCVs do. Most K30 work trucks in the rust belt are long gone where as there are a few M1008s and M1028s that you can pick up from municipalities or local states. Civilian silverado K30s in good shape would obviously bring more but not many of...
Here is an example of a M1028a1 modification plate. I currently own both these trucks, the camo one since 2007. THAT one did NOT have a pickup bed on it but had the 70s era Contact Maintenance Body yet still had the conversion tag on it. I removed the body and made it back into a pickup and have...
ALL m1031s were Cab/chassis to start with and have a B as the third digit in the serial number. M1028a1s and M1028a2s are conversions and will also have a B as the third digit. All should have a NP205 transfer case. The civilian era K30 pickup OR Cab/Chassis from 1986 would have had a NP205...
M1028a1. Few years ago pulled a stuck 2wd plow dump truck out of a snow bank. Got truck on dry round, double chained, 4wd in low low. Came right out, driver surprised, I was not.
They ARE great plow trucks. Posted a few pictures. The white one though I missed out on. The others were mine at one time. Currently use an 86 K30 diesel stick dump.
I have A k30 DUMP, 86 MODEL, 6.2l WITH SAME 4:56 GEARS as the CUCVs. Hydraulic clutch set up, easy shifting, better for hauling the heavy loads maybe (low low) but just seems like a matter of personal choice. Have a PTO driven dump off the trans also. Ironically the truck started life as a US...
Just installed this in my 86 K30 dump. Other than the extra holes for the manual transmission and the pto its the same cab floor as the M1008/m1028/m1031. Came from Trimparts, Inc. Took about 6 hours to install but came out great.
Going to do the M1028a2 next with this in the spring.
Like everyone else says, it depends on what you want to do with the truck. I have a CUCV dually M1028a2, not a daily driver but a weekend and errands running truck. Plus I'm a HS BB coach and the kids love it.
