Skinny, Thanks. My diesel tech put the alt on his test stand after
he redid it, and said it worked just fine. He also said that it wouldn't
do anything before, and when he took it apart there was no way it
could charge anything. Makes me think it's on the truck side. I might
swap the...
Warthog, voltages are
batt #1 12.6
batt #2 25.3
engine off
batt #1 14.6
batt #2 27.2
engine running after glow plugs are done cycling
Really not wanting to go 12v.
I should probably mention, (forgot) Gen 2 light didn't work at all til the
alternator was redone. Now, it does not...
I'll check tomorrow. I've checked it before. I thought maybe since the
voltmeter was in the green, it might be good. But common sense says
28-29 volts, I was afraid of that.
My M1008 is 24 volts. I went through it and put the
voltmeter in it. Replaced the popped 28 volt fuse.
Made sure the block ground is good (it wasn't).
Had #2 alt redone by someone who KNOWS electrical, he
rebuilds alternators and starters, as well as the fact
that he's the diesel tech I trust...
I put one on my 1008 from autoZone. The cheapest they had, it was in stock.
So far so good. The old one was leaking oil down the bottom, all the way down.
Subscribed! This is way too funny! Imagine sniffing the tailpipe (stack?) on a 5 ton?
Or even a Deuce? Or what about being in a closed room with my M1008 with those guys,
asking dumb questions with our eyes watering from the diesel fumes!
HAHAHAHAHAHA
^^^^And that's kind of a universal Delco thing at least where I come from.
We put lots of 1 wire Delco 12V alternators on old tractors, trucks, etc
and you gotta pump the gas once to make em charge. All the old Farmers
accept that fact, especially since they start so well
I told someone else, check the brake lines real close! My 1008 did super
on the test drive, but I chose to trailer it home less than 100 miles. Remember
those lines are 30 years old, and can be thin by now. I popped one loading it
on the trailer. If you choose to drive it, take a pair of...
Well 120+ miles later, she is sitting in the yard back home safe and sound.
She's going to work tomorrow, seems to get good mpg.
The scrapyard run was a total success![thumbzup]
Looks red. It also looks like it's headed to the scrapyard tomorrow with
a small load of junk I got from work! Still in shakedown mode, trying
to see what needs fixing
Nice truck! I just got one a month ago, M1008, read the stickies here please. You
will learn much, remember to clean electrical connections and replace rubber stuff.
Mine acted badly when shifting, 6 inches of vacuum line completely healed it.
Good luck and have fun!!!
