    What is yours?

Cranetruck's pic was the first one to came to my mind, 67 years of service and the Deuce is still combat ready! But can someone look just above the wrecker's left door mirror and tell me what that is up there? Is that the oft mentioned but never seen "A" frame that mounts on the Deuce front...

Turbo boost hits 15 psi plus

I feel cheated. The best my "C" turbo will do is 8 PSI on a long uphill climb at about 1100-1200F on the pyro, fuel turned up 2 flats (1/6th turn). Any more fuel and the pyro gets up to 1250F.

    Best Coolant / Antifreeze

Flushing the coolant system has been discussed in other postings. I doubt cross contamination will be much of a problem if you do a good job of draining the old coolant. The biggest issue is to open all the coolant drains on the block, heater etc. to drain as much of the old coolant as possible...

    Best Coolant / Antifreeze

I googled "Shell Rotella ELC coolant" and found out it is NOT a coolant, it is a a super concentrated antifreeze additive which you mix in with whatever coolant happens to be in your cooling system. Following are quotes directly from a trucking website, I couldn't find the ELC listed on the...

    Best Coolant / Antifreeze

Most US coolant feedstocks are either Ethylene Glycol ("EG", the "green stuff") or Propylene Glycol ("PG", the "blue stuff"). PG is new to this country, is less toxic and more "environmentally friendly" than EG. Most extended life coolants are PG, although some are EG. Since they all start with...

    M35A1 with detriot's ???

RE: M35A1 with detriot Pardon my ignorance, but are the Detroit lockers "limited slip"? I had thought they were, but saw some contradictory information on a 4x4 "mudder" site.

    Best Coolant / Antifreeze

The local truck stop has HD diesel coolant, don't recall the brand, but it was about $9-$10 per gallon last time I looked.

    Engine Prelube Info....

Jon - They are pricey, only 3 gpm, which I guess would work in a pinch, but they don't specify the output pressure. I'll keep them in mind, may try it if I can't find something more to my liking. The system in dmetalmiki's wrecker had a huge motor, I don't know if this pump would be up to the job.

    Engine Prelube Info....

I'm with you, I just haven't been able to find a suitable pump yet for a pre lube system. I figure 15-30 psi at 10-20 gpm would work. The pumps (actually power packs) Ryan found probably wouldn't work too well as there is no suction line (they are designed to pump oil from the attached...

    Best Coolant / Antifreeze

Just make sure the coolant container says "for heavy duty diesel use". The regular light automotive stuff you buy at Wally*World etc. does not have the proper additives. HD diesels are subject to very different internal vibrations than gasoline or LD diesels. Those unique vibrations can set up...

    DEUCE spin on oil filters!!!!

I'm with you JD, I just haven't been able to find a suitable pump yet for a pre lube system. I figure 15-30 psi at 10-20 gpm would work. I have been giving a pre lube system a lot of thought. For an oil pick up I'd cut back the Turbo drain line a little bit, remove the drain line fitting from...

    DEUCE spin on oil filters!!!!

To me it comes down to 2-3 seconds for full oil pressure vs 15-20 seconds for full oil pressure. To repeat the quotation I posted from Fleetguard above: "The majority of engine wear occurs during cold starts.... This is due to the time it takes for full oil pressure to reach critical...

    Exhaust Flow

I agree you can't have too much horsepower OR torque. But the multifuel is not designed to be particularly efficient. Small, compact squared-off intake and exhaust manifolds, small internal passages, all 90 degree bends, unequal length passages, all of which contribute to inefficiency. Not at...

    Pumpless!

Probably the plate at the bottom of the pump fell off. They are crimped on and have been known to fall off. The pump motor spins, but without the bottom plate the pump gears just spin but do not pump fuel because the pump chamber is not sealed.

    Exhaust Flow

Re: RE: Re: RE: Exhaust Flow As I recall, all Detroit two strokes were supercharged and most were turbo'd, so they probably had a VE well above 100% which would explain the high air flow, but even then 1500 CFM sounds a bit high. You are correct on the 410 CFM Deuce air cleaner, I just...

    Oil analysis report... scary!

Did you notice the oil level climbing on the dipstick at all while the FDC was leaking?

    Fuel system ferrules

Doghead - I found both male compression plugs and female compression caps at a local hydraulics shop. I use them to plug off my fuel lines and fuel filter bases when I am changing fuel filters.

    Exhaust Flow

Re: RE: Exhaust Flow Don't know if your idea is sound or not, but your math is wrong. The LDx 465 engine is 478 cubic inches, but it is a four stroke cycle, so you only exhaust each cylinder every other revolution. Therefore it should be (478 cu in/2 rev x 2600 rev/min)/1728 cu in/cu ft =...

    DEUCE spin on oil filters!!!!

The pressure drop differential is not too surprising, since the original filter set-up has two filter elements in parallel vs a single filter element with the remote filter installation. If there were room to parallel two remote filters, the pressure drop across the paralleled remote XD filters...

    DEUCE spin on oil filters!!!!

I found the following information in a Fleetguard product brochure. Although it was excerpted from a bypass filter brochure, it is pertinent to the "dry start" discussion. Take it for what it is worth. "The majority of engine wear occurs during cold starts.... This is due to the time it takes...
