What muffler will make the 6.2 sound like a diesel

Here ya go, Banks turbo with a single 3" straight pipe stack. Sounds like a diesel.

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

Hea Dave, my truck seems to have a little more giddy up compared to my friends 98 6.5. It might just be the 4.56 gearing though.

    Stripped bolt hole

I have replaced a few transmissions on these trucks, all civi except for mine, and found the bolts to be rusted to the point of taking on an hour glass shape where the bolt passes through the spacer. Most twisted right off using an impact gun. Replacing the bolts with shorter grade 8 flange...

    1986 M1031 4L80E Swap Question

    Northwest fabworks 4L80E to NP205 adapter. Part#AA-50-0410, $547.00. Ouch!

    Stripped bolt hole

The crossmember should be bolted tight to the frame. Having the crossmember spaced like you discribe could cause the frame to flex, the bolt holes in either the frame and the crossmember to elongate, or snap the bolts. Heavy loading, like off roading could cause the body to flex with the frame...

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

Hea Dave, Im a lowly dirt pusher with Local 137 in Briarcliff Manor NY. I run Excavators, Dozers, ETC. No Tower Cranes for me, I get nauseous just looking at them. LOL! Work has been pretty bad here also. We will be building a new $3.1B bridge across the Hudson starting this year to replace the...

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

Dave, adding a turbo will really make your truck come alive with the OD trans. I have a 700-R4 with the Banks turbo, and it pulls real nice in 3rd and 4th gear. BTW, Are you IUOE? I figured as much by your avatar.

    Stripped bolt hole

Good point o1951. the galling or stripping of the housing threads was probably a result of not starting all the bolts loosely by hand, and then tightening them, or using an impact gun on them. Impact guns of today can produce increadable torque values, and using them for anything other than...

    Stripped bolt hole

The spacers belong on the bolts inside the frame.

    Stripped bolt hole

I understand your frustration. I had a shop that is owned by a now not so good friend of mine replace the oil pan on GFs Chevy Tracker, which is a miserable job for $800.00. I just didn't want to do it. I know the mechanic that did the work, the torch and hammer guy I did not want touching the...

    Stripped bolt hole

First of all, your welcome for the Heli-coil info. Second, if you are such an experienced mechanic, why would ask if a Heli-coil repair would work? Third, that brace is missing on most of these trucks anyway, not a big deal. And BTW, your crossmember should not be spaced off the frame like that...

    Stripped bolt hole

Hansdrubal, Other than chasing the threads, the Heli-coil repair is the way to go. They should not have used an impact on an aluminum housing in the first place, so I would be leary about letting them do the Heli-coil repair. Taping aluminum is far easier than cast iron if you want to DIY...

    Help with Death Shake/Wobble

Good luck with that brother, as per post #53, he made it sound like he made his own diagnosis. The question was answered by yourself early in the thread, and others afterword.

    6.2L Dream Build

Hea Don, I searched "dynamic tuning" and got nada, I think you mean dynamic timing. I searched that and found a few pages on it. www.thedieselplace.com etc. As far as the dealership doing the work, I think i'd find the oldest mechanic in the place to do the work. The lap top kids would probably...

    6.2L Dream Build

Both, look um up at Jegs or Summit performance parts. it's really not a good idea to re use head bolts, they stretch. You can use stock replacement GM head bolts if the ARP studs are beyond your budget. The head studs are the better choice though.

I thought the same thing. Just went to the Banks site to see. Still available!

    6.2L Dream Build

Yup, they are interchangeable. Use the injector lines off the 6.5, they have slightly different bend to them. Use ARP head studs, do not re use the head bolts.

    6.2L Dream Build

Block casting numbers are below the drivers side head on the rear of the engine block. All CUCV trucks will have the 14022660 engine block casting number. If the last three digits in the casting number end in other than 660, the engine is not original and was swapped out. The 1982 660 "red...
