most of the guys who haul these trucks can haul two 5 tons. You should be able to cut the price for both trucks if they are going the same are. 1750. is bad for the distance.
Eastern and Memphis use off the shelf Meritor brakes. You can get them for half that price new! I have a complete used set at my shop. S cams are the best, cheapest and easiest to work on! I like hydraulic brakes too, they work good when they are adjusted right. Maintenance is the key.
I thought about doing it myself. Meritor brakes will bolt on, I have seen the thread where a member did it to his truck. It isn't needed if your brakes are maintained properly.
I would talk to "crazywelder" he is here in Mass. He has a M35A2 with 53's and it is still 6x6. I know he drives it everywhere. I believe it is for sale in the classifieds too.

I have a rubber bump stop that fits over my air blow gun, I just give it a little puff of compressed air to get things moving. Usually there is a little crude plugging things up.
