OK, Why do some CUCVs have 6 digit odometers and some only 5? I've seen one M1009 and my own M1028A1 with 6 digit odometers, most seem to have the usual 5 digit (plus 10ths) odometer. Any reason? Replaced? thanks

RE: Fuel gauge won I found the volt meter relay, its up under the dash taped to the wiring harness, its a bosch 5 prong unit and mine was all corroded. You have to take the instrument panel out to get to it though.

Have everything working on my M1028a1 except the volt meter and the fuel gauge. There is power to the cluster in the dash (when I pull out the gauge) and the gauge worked in my parts truck. there is also power back to the fuel tank sending unit. I have tried two different sending units, cleaned...

The difference for the 3rd digit is a B is for Chevrolet, incomplete (like an M1031), C is just chevrolet truck. (like an M1008) This info is found in Section OA-2, general information in any GM service Maunual.

I have a true M1028A1 with a "G" where the "H" is. The G makes mine a 1986, the H makes it a 1987, nothing to do with being an M1028 or M1008. The F after the H means it was made in Flint.

Been working on my M1028A1 for a while now. Got the new driveshaft in, new fuel tank, new dash pad, FINALLY got all the wiring working including all the dash lights (the culprit was corrossion and sand, Kuwait sand, which is where truck is from) and the truck runs great but needs a pickup box...

Had problems with my M1028a1 also, changed the glow plug card (had put in a bad one from a junk yard but didn't know it was bad) and the relay. Now it works fine. Reading and REreading the TMs helps too. good luck.

Where is a good spot to put a license plate and light on the back bumper of an M1028 without taking away the "look" of the truck". I'd like to keep the pintle hook. thanks
