    I can't drive 55!!!

No, What's getting old is guys hammering these trucks down the highway and then complaining about blown heads and broken cranks, poor performance and "funny noises" A bone stock M1008 is turning 3251 RPM @ 60 MPH. Screaming? I guess so! My 1031 has a 700R4 285/75R16s and runs at 1960 RPM @...

    New Seats for CUCV

Easy with the bleach, just enough to kill the mold, 1/3 of a cup to a gallon of water should do it. Spray Nine works great for the rest.

    New Seats for CUCV

Yup, it's also unhealthy. Sounds crazy, you can cross contaminate mold by getting it on your clothes, and spreading it throughout your home. No BS, I learned that when I got my hazmat and disaster site cirtifacations with IUOE.

    New Seats for CUCV

I put leather power seats from a 2002 S10 in my 1031, had to PITA fab brackets to fit it with all the power stuff underneath, not worth it. standard S10 seats backs will flip forward enough so you can access the rear seat of your 1009 from either side. They may just bolt up to your sliders with...

    1028a2 wheel & tire conversion

If you go with the 4L80e tranny swap, will you be able to keep the 205 T case? As you know, the 205 makes the truck what it is, rare and desireable. I'd keep the TH400 and do the suspension/tall tire mod as long as no front fender cutting is invoved. Im not really a fan of fender cutting on a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Way cool mod, by far more functional than the stock pickup body. Would be a great conversion for M1031 owners that have no use for the maint box. I think you may have started something here. My five foot three girlfriend loves the swivel seat, hates climbing into my truck like a monkey.LOL. Nice...

    Engine help

Not necessarily, a bad cyl with lower compression will still fire, with a dirty incomplete combustion as a result and not show any signs of a miss. Checking cyl compression by cutting off the fuel to that cyl is new to me. How can you accurately measure compression this way? All that can be...

    Engine help

I don't think timing is the issue. Aperently the truck ran fine untill the head gasket, or gaskets blew. the fact that the PO ran the truck with a blown head gasket to the point of "chewing up the heads" leads me to beleve the engine hydrolocked, resulting in bent connecting rods, cracked...

I accidentally joined a convoy the other day.

I live ten miles south of Camp Smith which is in Peekskill NY, there is always MVs on RT9 and 9-A. They run about 50 mph so I just pass em. The kids look at my truck and think nothing of it. The older guys will give a wave or thumbs up in recognition, should be the other way around. Other than...

Removal of the shift lever - need help

Yea, and hold the punch and the lever with one hand, so when you wack it, you give it some resistance, you won't bust anything that way.

    Letting the Cucv go

Woa, now hold on. You just got here. You have some money invested in it, so why give up on it now? If you need help, reach out and ask questions. thats what this fourm is all about. Where in New York are you? If you live close enough, I can help you with the wrench work as I are a mekanik.LOL...

Removal of the shift lever - need help

It's a roll pin, use a flat punch that is the same diameter as the pin and give it a good tap. If you use a smaller punch or a center punch, you may mushroom the roll pin making it even harder to get out.

    Its not a 350 diesel!

The GMC V6 gas to diesel conversion called a Toro-Flow was also a failure. Some of the older guys here might remember it. GMC tried to market a lighter and cheaper alternative to the Detroit 6V-53, It didn't work out well.

    Its not a 350 diesel!

Yup, you are right, They were Bruins. It was a long time ago, but I do recall working on some Brigadiers also. Like I said, they were all the same, guess I didn't notice it. That was a busy terminal.

    Its not a 350 diesel!

Hea Marcus, I had a short stint as a mechanic at a Leaseway, formerly Anchor Motor Freight terminal in Tarrytown NY. System wide, and no matter what terminal of origin, all the tractors were Chevy Brigadiers. All with 6-71 DE-troit Diesels, as we call them back east, and 9sp spicer tranny's...

    Its not a 350 diesel!

This is true, and as far back as the 1960s, GM implemented a sort of parts bin manufacturing process. Manufacturing a small variety of parts for a large variety of models. GM had small block and big block engines, three six cylinder and one "iron duke" four, reducing cost and inventory big time...

    Its not a 350 diesel!

I worked for a guy back in the early 80s that had a diesel Caprice classic estate wagon. Beautiful car, with leather and all power options. It would blow black soot like a 6-71 with a blower that's ready to take a dump. Three cranks, three motors. end of story.
