    Flex plate/fly wheel

Chances are you did not damage the pump, but rather bent the flexplate. If you bolted the converter on the flexplate before installing the trans, that was a mistake. allways install the converter on the trans first, then mount the trans to the engine. Never try to draw in the trans to the engine...

    CUCV - Starter Fluid

Some people just shouldn't own diesel engines Skinny, They are ignorant to how a diesel engine works or the fact that using ether, or pouring a flamible liquid down the intake will result in costly damage. This topic has been covered at nauseam. Some diesel owners, old and new, just don't get it.

Looking at buying an m1009, thoughts on price?

Looks nice and straight, and no signs of any forklift ramming. If it runs as well as it looks, go for it. As said above, $4250.00 is not a bad dealer price[thumbzup]

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Replaced broken power steering pump bracket for the third time in almost a year, and it's getting old. Good thing im hoarding them. Took me two months to find only two of them. They are as scarce as hens teeth.aua

    Lifter replacement

I know you are trying to keep your repair as simple as possible, I would too as I im lazy,LOL. If you remove both heads, replace all the lifters and have the heads redone, you will have no worries for a long time, just sayin. Good luck and post how difficult it is to perform, im sure there would...

    Lifter replacement

As per a thread posted at - The Diesel Page.com intitled- Removing lifters with heads on. It states that it can be done using a magnet but it is very dificult. That being said, it almost sounds like removing the head is easier than trying to fish out the lifters. That's the post I read from...

    86 M1009 questions

The advantage of the 24v system is it's better for cold climate truck owners like myself. Nothing like a 24v starter when it's 10 degrees and the snow is blowin. In your climate a 12v conversion will be fine if thats what you want to do. A single 100 amp alternator and a group 31 battery should...

A little more bang for your buck

That would be turning up the fuel metering screw in the injector pump and it's a little more involved than what you discribed. Don't touch it, let someone who knows how to make this adjustment turn up the fuel. It may have been turned up once already. Depending on the condition of the engine...

    86 M1009 questions

twright, Im sure the OP is well aware that the 24v side of the system is for starting and GP functions. I have an electric plow pump on my truck thats I wired to the front battery. It pulls enough amperage to send the volt guage well into the yellow when ever I raise or angle the plow. I...

    86 M1009 questions

Skinny makes an exelent point, Keep it 24v. If you run a gang of 12v off road lights from the front battery you will more than likely run into trouble. The front battery will always be low from the draw of the lights, radios and whatever, and the rear battery will be over charging. Running the...

    Wont start when warm?

Pouring liquids of any kind into the intake of a diesel engine is not a good idea, you may hydrolock the engine. You can get away with that with a gas engine becuase the gasser has a much lower compression ratio. All you can really do is flood it. Hydrolocking a diesel engine can cause big time...

    Fuel filter bleading issue

For all you newbe's with little or no diesel experience. and feel compelled to reply to threads with little or no constructive answers and snide remarks, sit back and listen. There's an almost 50% chance you might learn something.

    M1009 Front Hub Temperatures

The rotor on the the side that hung up should also get a clean up cut on the brake lathe and visually inspected for heat checking, microscopic cracks that occure when a rotor or drum is overheated. An overheated rotor will have a yellow hue to it, if it's blue, without question, I would toss...

    M1009 Vibration at Idle

I agree with Sharecropper. A harmonic balancer can be had for less than $100.00. I would also stop driving it untill you find out exactly what is causing the vibration. If the balancer fails, the crankshaft will break, end of story. Your balancer is almost 30 yrs old, replace it. Sounds crazy...

    Fuel sending unit

Hea Marcus, Youre the electrical guy, Im not. I have found that green corrosion inside some wires after stripping them. Does that have an effect on the wires ability to carry voltage or continuity? The fuel sender wire was visulally intact, but no continuity, so I got pi$$ed and replaced...

    Fuel sending unit

I had the same problem a while back. I fiddled with a volt/ohm meter, got frustrated, electrical is not my strong point, so I replaced the sender, ran a new wire and installed a small 2-1/8 guage next to the bat/volt meter. Looks like it belongs there, and it's reliable.
