    fast idle temp switch

I wired my fast idle/ ip advance to an illuminated rocker switch in my dash. Reason being is I live by several big hills. I found that the sensor switched off while I still needed the cold advance on. It goes much better up hill now. Only use it during the several minutes until it gets hot. I...

    M1008 Th400 broken case issue

Sorry guys, its torrential rain here for me to get underneath and take a pic of the braces-support rods. There are 3 of them. 2 shorter ones go from the frame where the motor mounts are to the bottom of the bellhousing. The long thicker bar goes from the block by where the starter mounts to...

    M1008 Th400 broken case issue

When I got my M1009 it didn't have any of the tranny support braces. My CUCV knowledgeable friend told me the army probably takes them off for whatever reason, then doesn't replace them. He broke his tranny case withought them. Learned the hard way. So I went to a wrecker and sourced them out...

    Canadian price for AC60's

Thought some of the Canadian members might have some input. I guess not. Went the ebay route, found a guy in NY to ship them, $9.69 each. A much more reasonable cost.

    Canadian price for AC60's

These plugs go for $9.00 in the US. Here they list at the Lordco for $35.99, with my discount they're $ 24.29. Checked the GM dealer, list is $32.00, parts guy was friendly, let me have it for $20.00. This is bloody outrageous! Anyone source out a more reasonable cost somewhere up here in the...

Worried about these new glow plugs

I got my M1009 in 2004. Most of the AC13's or whatever was in there started to die. After removing one swollen plug with the special tool my friend ordered, I installed AC60G plugs. The first set lasted about 4 years of everyday continuous use. On my second set now. Definetely the way to go...

    Radiator Replacement

My rad started leaking. The core was shot. My rad guy says it could be expensive as these cores are custom made now only. Turns out I only had a three core, not a four core rad thats supposed to be in there. Luckily in his storage he had a new copper core left from a post office contract on...

    Dodgy tail light bulb socket

Last night, was trying to figure this out. Sometimes when I put the bulb in it would light and sometimes not. It was a fancy japanese Kotto 1157 anti vibration bulb, used in some motorcycles. Tried a regular 1157, its fit is tighter in the socket than the Kotto. It would seem that the diameter...

    Dodgy tail light bulb socket

Having this issue with the tail light/ stop light bulb not working. Give it a wack..it works. Keeps doing it. Checked it out, seems to be one of the two brass contacts in bottom of socket appears not as sprung as the other one. Dont have access to another bulb socket right now. Anyone know of a...

A CUCV with carpet? Blasphemy? You be the judge

On my M1009 after I sandblasted all the rust, I rhino lined it. Then I used some type of marine carpeting my friend had. Its 3/8 inch thick neoprene material so it doesn't rot and stink if it gets wet. Has an adhesive coating on the bottom and a soft terry cloth like material on the top. Had to...

    Problem this morning, need help.

I'm assuming you still have the 24V system. Unless you have a slave cable and another 24V equipped truck, you wont be able to jump it with another vehicle because they're only 12V. Disconnect your batteries and charge each one seperately. As for the "popping sound and smelling something...

    warming up question

The cold start solenoid controls both the high-idle mechanism and advances the injection pump timing. You can replace the solenoid, be careful not to over tighten or it will break. Or do what i did; installed a manual toggle switch in my dash so I can leave it on a little longer if I'm going up...

    Water leaking into cab

I'm with the windshield area as the possible culprit. Seen it happen a few times. Take the windshield out, they're easy to re & re. There are a couple of drain holes at the two corners that allow the water to drain out, if these get plugged the water rises up over the lip and comes down inside...

    fuel problems. please help!!!

Could be a faulty fuel cap, happened to me. After you park for the day , open the cap, hear any pressure difference?, put cap back on. If it fires right up next morning, there's your problem. Get a new one , or drill a tiny hole through the cap.

    Air in fuel AGAIN

I had this same symptom, ran great after bleeding, wouldn't start in the morning. It was a faulty fuel cap! All the experts I spoke to wanted to rebuild half the truck. Had to bleed the injectors several days in a row, got pretty good at it. Figured it out by cracking the cap after stopping for...

intake noise reduction with a cold air tube

I put a plastic "intake muffler" on mine from a civy chev diesel. My friend who has several CUCV's, put them on all his fleet. Cuts down the intake noise. Look around at a chevy truck parts wrecker.

    Short Cycling Wait Light

Using a test light is both simple and fast...and since you only connect it to one battery, it is 12 V. I've always done it this way, its foolproof, it either lights or doesn't. Why would using an ohm meter be more definitive? If i didn't know better, I'd say that was confusing...

    1985 m1010 Glow Plugs?

I've had the AC 60G's for 5 years now..they are definitely the way to go, had the odd one fail but at least they dont swell up like those horrible 13G's used to. I dont even think you can get the 13G's anymore, as they are discontinued. I have manual glow push button. The 60's take twice as long...

    tilt wheel in cucv

I dont recall having any issues with the ignition switch compatability that you mentioned, as I put mine in several years ago. But it went right in, everything works! So yes, it is plug and play. I got it for the intermittent wiper function as well as the smaller diameter wheel and the tilt is a...
