I have a bid in on an used speed-o-meter, but am curious. Anyone know of a source for replacement needles for when ham handed backyard mechanics (like me), break one off?

oil pressure, water temp and volts.

Now that I've got gauges, I see my oil pressure at 50 when it's cold, thirty five warm and going down the road, and 15-20 at idle. My cold weather water temp is 140, Gen one voltage is always about 2 volts higher than gen 2. Being sixteen to 14 generally. Do these seem normal?

    CV joint rebuilding.

Broke down and broke down the CV joint today. Looks like there should be a grease seal over the little ball and cup thats in the center of the whole thing, is that right? Mine is missing, but may have burnt off when I heated it to loosen the ujoint caps. Also, mine being a M1009, it looks...

    add-on filters

What type add on filters do you all like, for the transmission, fuel and power steering? My power steering may end up having to power my winch. I did get four fuel filter off the evil-bay. Bought a couple oil filters. Looking into these other filters, as I want everything to last awhile. Do...

    dashboard wiring diagram?

Anyone have or know of a diagram of the dash board printed circuit, and a list of what wire does what in the plug that plugs into it? The plug is numbered 1 through 18, so it seems there would be a listing of the function of each. I've printed all the wiring diagrams, but don't see any of this.

    Puttin in some gauges.

Got a water temp gauge in, placed an oil pressure gauge and two voltage gauges in the dash also, all where the dummy lights were. Put an oil temp gauge in place of the old voltage gauge. Had another temp gauge to place beside it, for the transmission, but it didn't work. Figured out how to...

    got inspection today.

It passed. Whew. While up on the lift several mechanics commented on how new everything looked. No weak spots anywhere. Exhaust like new, u-joints and steering linkages like new. Brakes like new. New shocks. No leaks, and a spotless engine. Fuel tank not rusty, All in all, very pleased...

    water in fuel

Got that "water in fuel" warning light on. Whats the going price on filters? Is it cost effective to install a spin on filter instead? If so, what about the sensor(s)? Lastly, I'd like to install pressure gauges, electric, one pre, and one post filter, to monitor filter condition. Any idea's?

    funky dimmer switch

I bypassed the blackout light switch. Now, and possibly before doing so, it sometimes fails to illuminate any headlights when I try to go from one beam, hi or low, to the other. Once in a while I'll only get one headlight to work instead of both. I'm thinking the dimmer switch might be going...

    bypass glowplugs.

If I want to be able to bypass the glowplugs, like to have the key on, truck not running, without the glowplugs cycling, would I extend the blue wire and put a switch in it?

    3.5mA draw, 12volts

Will that amp draw run a battery down. I'm thinking not, that's likely just my radio's memory function, but seems worth asking. I bypassed the blackout light switches. Actually just the one with six prongs. I had to run two jumpers, one for all the regular lights, and one for the brake lights...

    Seriously, kerosene heater under hood?

I see some old timers used kerosene heaters under their hoods on really cold nights. I'm thinking the same might a feasible answer to my problem, and one I can afford. If I insulate the engine compartment with that fiber, aluminum faced insulation, make a tarp type front bra, and keep the...

How good/bad these 10 bolt axles?

Should I be worrying about the 10 bolt axles in my 1009? Is it worthwhile to add a gov-lok to the front one? How good is the 208 transfer case? I do a few car hauler type tows a year, about three hours at a time.

    good either injector.

Looking for a good either injector, like they use on farm tractors, for cold starting. I will rig a manual glowplug warmer, and install this. The 1009 was balky today at 0 degrees, we see -40 at times. Also, the manual glow plug install sticky should be brought forward from the old site. Also...
