Did some searching for you, that Murray rad in my zip code is $595.99? Oh no! Also, I could not find a replacement rad that is not aluminum w plastic tanks. Guess im old school. LOL. I found one at GM-parts center for $261.89, they have 30 to 40% discounts for online purchases, not bad for a...
Don't hold me to it, I beleve you have to use the red Dexcool with the aluminum radiator. No good, it gets thick and gloppy after time and clogs in the bottom of the rad. I'd just go with a stock replacement and use the old school green coolant. Rumor has it that GM had a lawsuit charging...
Im with Barrmam, change it all out while you have the room to work on it. A new rad, pump and hoses will take you a little over budget, but I would replace the nearly 30yr old rad depending of course on how bad the old one is and how much it will cost you to fix it. How is the harmonic balancer...
Yea JG, you are right, thats all it is really, cannibalise it and donate the rest to a local Bocees and let the kids learn rust repair. Hard to beleve a dealership would actually try to sell something like that.:cookoo:
KerryAnn, The OD green truck is junk, basicly it's a restoration/parts truck, stay away from it unless you want to get a tetanus shot. You want a truck you can jump in and enjoy, not a restoration project. The truck at Motorsource is actually pretty nice. See if they will throw a floor mat or...
I would shy away from dealerships as far as CUCV's go. Most of the time they are flippers, and do not make the nessesary upgrades to these trucks to make them reliable. These upgrades are as follows- A HD starter relay, or better known as "the doghead mod." a HD GP relay, A spin on fuel filter...
Checking a broken mount visually is hard to do. The best way to check for a broken mount is to place a jack under the engine and jack up slightly to see if there is any movement. use a short piece of 2x4 in between the jack and the oil pan so you don't damage it. If there is no movement and...
GM parts center may have a bracket, part#14038643, rod part#14038642. I searched obsolete GM parts some time ago and GM parts center came up. I got the rod for $4.83. If the bracket search fails, the Jet performance part #700225 at Summit Racing can easily be retrofited to match the original...
Okaaaay....................... rick, then why is it when you change the oil on old transmissions they slip? I have heard of this happening more than once. Older GM transmissions actually function better with Mercon fluid, look it up. Why did his trans slip with only 3500 miles on it. How could...
Can you conferm how many miles are on the truck? With all due respect, I find it hard to beleve it has only 3500 miles on it, and if it does, why change the fluid? If the oil was burnt, it has far more than 3500 miles on it. Old trans fluid has alot of clutch materal in it, thats what gives the...
I went up to my friends junk yard today, same place I found my rebuilt 82 C code "red' block and found two 27 spline NP 205s, yea behind TH 350s. Do I feel like a complete moron.aua
Go to tractor supply and get yourself two group 31 Exides, $100.00 each up here, probly less down by you. Best buy for the money, I think. If you replace just one battery, make sure it matches the CCA rating of the front bat, just my2cents.
Thanks Dave, My head is spinning with all this tranny/transfer case swap stuff. I would never give anyone bad info intentionally, just relaying what was done to my truck regarding my 700 swap. Don't want to hyjack an interesting thread here either. Thanks for the info, i'll probly use it in the...
OD, I didn't know a 205 came in a 27 spline configuration. Are they as common as the 32 spline case? I was assuming he was using the 205 more common to our trucks and more easily aquired through MV circles. Finding a 27 spline case would by far simplify a 700/205 swap.
Yep 4.56 gears. I love it, I can run this truck on the highway with no problems. The 700 and 4.10s is actually a better combo as first gear with the 4.56 gears is almost useless in my truck. You do know the 700/205 is not a bolt up conversion right? you will need to install a 32 spline output...
stationjj, Don't do the bypass untill you figured out what the problem is. The only reason I did the bypass is that my GP card fried in January of this year and I needed to have the truck ready to snowplow. I have used manual glow plug sys for nearly 30 yrs on heavy equipment so I know how to...
