Haven't tried the marine "Goop", but I have used the shoe "Goop" for fixing tennis/running shoes. It sticks to most anything and wears like iron. Maybe I'll switch to that stuff in place of silicone, its a lot cheaper and seems to work better.
Thanks Bjorn, I forgot the part about sealing the zipper with silicone sealant. But my intent was not to unzip the boot later, just to be able to remove the clamps and move the boot out of the way if you had to do some work on the knuckle, kingpins, etc. With the zipper uncut and sealed with...
'Course, back in my Army Combat Engineer days, our Company motto was "There are few problems which cannot be solved with a suitable application of High Explosives".
I used to pull out some pretty good sized trees with my civvie full size 4wd Blazer. I'd use a ladder to hook a chain as high up in the tree as I could get it, hook the other end of the chain to my receiver hitch. Then I'd dig down about 1' around the base of the tree and chop all the roots I...
Here is the Voice of Experience talking. I went through the "replace the boot" exercise THREE times before I finally got it right!
The inner clamp bolt MUST be on the TOP of the knuckle, otherwise the knuckle will knock the clamp off when you turn. Unfortunately the illustration in the TM shows...
Alright - I gotta ask the question. Spec for highway use is 50 psi all around. I drive the Deuce moderately, mixture of mostly paved, occasionally gravel, sometimes snowy roads. Never have a load of any sort in the back other than a light load of wood for a project around the house. Can I run 35...
What, no snow? Life is not worth living without snow! There is nothing like 4 wheeling (or 6x6 wheeling) in a foot or two of fresh snow! Unless its passing the idiots in the 2WDs who can't drive in the snow and end up burying themselves in a snowbank or a ditch. It IS a hoot to haul them out and...
The inner and outer bearings should be identical in size except for the inner bore diameter. The inner bearing has a larger bore diameter to fit over the step in the spindle. The OD and width are the same inner and outer, and the cups are the same for both. If your wheel bearings are not the...
OK folks, I am going to post a lot of info here on the Deuce Ether Start System. You may need to read this a few times before it all soaks in.
I picked up a spare ether cylinder at my local "Parts Plus" auto parts store. I took the old cylinder off of my truck to match it up, as they do come in...
Joel - 6.5 amps is a lot of power, by a factor of about 2x what I would have expected. I didn't notice an amperage rating on any of my heater data plates. Now 6.5 amps is some 10%+ of the (60 amp) alternator output, but I have no problems at all running my heater. Either LAX has a 30 amp...
Roger on the filter bag housings a couple of pics above. Not mine, I've run out of time to get all my projects done before the onset of cold weather. I don't have a heated garage (or an unheated one for that matter) to work in during the wintertime. Next springtime I'm going to get some 4" & 6"...
It all depends on what you are filtering. A highly mission critical fuel system might filter down to 1 micron absolute. A normal truck fuel system will probably filter 5 microns nominal, which is to say it could pass a small amount of 10 micron particles. A good oil filter may filter down to...
Of course, it just could be the passenger low beam filament is burned out. Or, it could be your installer really screwed up some wiring when he installed the wiring. Test #1 is to put a DMM on the blower lead and see what it is drawing, should only be a few amps. You could have a bad blower...
Ditto the above. Filtering foreign particulate to 5 microns or less allows those particles to pass through the injection pump and injectors without causing damage.
I agree, the washing machine ain't gonna work unless you can find a way to spin it at 8000-10000 rpm, in which case I don't want to be within a mile of it when you try it.
IMHO, first choice is a filter bag. You can make a simple filter bag housing out of 4" and 6" PVC and a few fittings (see...
NEIOWA - I just gotta disagree with you. Concern number 1 is WARM, fully charged batteries. If you look at the charts, the available cranking amps for a fully charged battery at 0F is only about 50% of the available cranking amps at 70F. Regardless of the temp of the oil or engine coolant, a set...
FreightTrain - Sounds like you couldn't trust that Dually to pull a tin can out of your driveway. I'll have to take my foot out of my mouth and agree with Kenny 100%, use the Deuce to pull the Dually. It will be a long slow trip driving the Deuce, but much safer and more likely to get there...
I'd have to agree with Chuck, some slight seepage of oil (especially on the intake side) is NOT a cause for alarm UNLESS there are visible droplets running down the side of the engine or puddles (no matter how small) under the engine after it sits for a while. Absent the last two conditions...
In addition to a MG ring mount, the tube on the passenger side is also used to mount convoy flags. All Deuces (at least all I have seen) have the tube mount on the passenger side. Don't lose any sleep over it!
As best as I can recall, your type of mirror dates from the early 70s and before. I...
