From a safety standpoint pre-tripping with the truck in gear is a good way to get killed. I wouldn't trust my life to a neutral T-case for an added few degrees in temp on the gear oil.
I have heard stories of farm tractors jumping into gear and hurting or killing the operator who got off of...
"All have glowplugs" Wanna bet a weeks pay on that ;) I can list many cats and cummins diesels without glowplugs.
Many small industrial diesels do have glowplugs... The big on highway diesels more often do not.
It will take a few thousand pounds before you will notice a difference.
Best thing to do is air the tires down to what the operators manual recommends for snow travel... I think it is 15 lbs.
Nope... I never double clutch or slide shift any truck that it is not required in.
Double clutching a sycromeshed transmission does nothing to improve shifting unless you already have problems with the tranny. It does save on wear of the syncromesh gears, but so does not driving the truck at...
It is an 800 acre open field with a runway in the middle. They have plenty of room; if it has to do with the CO it is because GL has burned one too many bridges with them. I am sure he/she did not like that Gl would make a preview appointment and then not show up and his/her MPs were left to...
Diesels without glow plugs are far more common than those with.
I have never driven an over the road truck that had glow plugs... Can't think of any that have them. Seems that glow plugs are reserved for small diesel vehicles... Probably because they are an added cost and if you are driving...
So is Ft Campbell.
I was told a while ago by GL that there is a scrap contract at Redstone that a bunch of trucks were being shipped to... I also saw somebody on here mention it in one thread right after the first hold occurred. That was why I asked if Redstone was at Huntsville.
It's...
I hope not...there are 53 trucks still available there. I actually scoped out a few of them already.
Wonder what the hauling bill would be? It would take 27 loads.
That actually makes perfect sense to me. At first it looks like a good way to pull the truck in half, but you are gaining slack to the front from between the blocks at they pull closer together.
I think it would be easier to wrap heavy rope around the rear tandems though.
Just got a letter that Fort Knox GL is under new management. Now they want me to clear up the record for the removal of my property.
I don't wish anybody out of a job, but Marcus was generally undependable.
Is the Multifuel a prechambered diesel or toroidal diesel? Glow plugs generally are only used in pre-chambered diesels. Toroidal diesels do not need glow plugs.
Many large diesel trucks do not have glow plugs.
Edit: I read back through the posts and Mudpuppy hit the nail on the head. The 6.2...
Okay; I got it: If the "tree" was a load that was moving and had 20000 lbs of pressure exerted on it; the same load stationary also has 20000 lbs exerted on it so the 20000 lbs is transferred to the truck.
But only if the winch is on the truck being pulled. It is pulling both sides at the same...
We are not talking about multiple sheave tackle. We are talking a single block simple tackle at the tree. Look at page 25 of the Recovery Manual. It has the ratios listed; for simple tackle it lists a 1:1. ratio. The only advantage of attaching a block to the tree and running the cable through...
Now from what I am seeing in the recovery manual running the cable through the snatch block at the tree and back to the truck provides no additional pulling power. The snatch block pulley must move in order multiply the pull weight. If the tree was another truck that you were pulling toward you...
Okay so I understand the usefulness of a snatch block if you are winching somebody else out, but how do you use it to improve your own pulling power if it is your own winch truck that was stuck?
For example: You are cutting firewood and sink in up to the frame. You have 2 cords of wood on the...
