You will always get better wear from the Goodyear but better traction from the XML off road. The larger the gap between trad blocks the faster it will wear on pavement due to cupping and such.
They look like Carrera axles. If they are they are of European make and are found in most 4wd backhoes and some lighter duty all terrain forklifts. Awesome score!
Rubber degrades from extreme heat and cold. Mostly it is from Ultra Violet light degradation. If you look at RVS they have Tire covers to sacrifice to the sun gods to make the tires last longer. Tires that are not overly weather cracked either suffer from damage of some sort or low air pressure...
I have seen some really scary weather cracked tires running down the hwy under load last a long time. Since there is no way to tell for certain my guess is that low airpressure is to blame. A leak via a puncture or some rubber fitting that didn't manifest itself as it sat as a spare with no load.
That pic looks like a typical separation blow out. MOST of the time it's due to heat build up due to under inflation over weight or hot driving conditions. It obvious it's not from weight. One of the products that is often used in the tire industry are inner liner conditioning products such...
There is a great reference site www.crawlpedia.com that has a decent cross reference for vehicle bolt patterns as well as how to correctly measure them.
Pretty rare rigs in the PNW I belive there are only 4 restored ones in private hands in Washington. It appears there is quite a line of people that would take a run at buying them.
The 1400x24 NDT are pretty rare and I don't think are in production. You can buy Dot approved bias and radial tires but your likely to spend close to a grand a piece for new. Additionally if those have the bolt together wheels most Tire shops will have a hard time demount and mounting them. You...
The Goodyear mvt are pretty stout tires. I have lots of friends that run them and my brother ran a set on his f350 crew cab that were 40% and badly weather cracked. He used them while logging and only popped one after they were all bald.
I've seen a few Duces with the 1200R20 Michelin XML out here in WA. The drive them singled out and I think look pretty sharp especially on the old gassers. The used striker tires are fairly abundant.
So all you had to do was put the correct taper on the bolt holes and it lined up?
I haven't seen an aluminum m rap wheel up close. Do you have any closeup pics of the wheels with the ball seat? I'm guessing most of the work came from polishing up those wheels. That's a ton of work but they...
