30KW turbine gen. This item came to us from the Air Force. They wanted it in one of the Missile systems
This was for the Patriot System. To power the AMG, (Magic Mast) and the Commo system for the mast. The Air Force controlled the repair parts and that did not sit well with the Patriot...
OK, I moved your thread to the right forum.
Hi all and i need some help i just bought a MEP-804b 15kw Generator and all in all its in excellent condition, but when i started it it wont produce a single watt of voltage from the main terminals, the courtesy plugs work (If the 120 volt plugs...
Maddawg means a Herman Nelson heater I think. The winter of 1974 was a cold one. The 24G Radar mechanics were working a bad radar problem, and after 2 days decided to put up a tent , on the main control side of the radar, and install a Herman Nelson heater so they all would not be turned into...
You need to measure at F1 and F2 wires, for voltage when you start up the engine. The Main Gen needs Initial Excitation, before it can produce power. So check that first to see it it is in fact happening.
When you get to the over 5 KW range, its going to smoke a bit. But yours looked good to me. Wet stacking is not going to happen until you run it under loaded for much longer time periods. Weeks or months. Easy to correct. Up the load and run it for several hours. My two cents on two things...

Normally when I hear that it works in low voltage and not in High voltage, Its a wire in the wrong place. In the military, 95% of the gen sets run only in low voltage mode. So the problem never raises its ugly head.
1974, the REFORGER field problem. Near Ulm, I think. We had been on the go, three days and nights without sleep. It was the last three days of the Field Problem. We got the word that we were to be "killed" by a nuke. At the appointed time, we all just dropped where we were and went into a deep...
If you look up the part numbers and NSN's you can plug them into your search machine. Often finding what you want. I would start a parts needed thread, and list what you need. There are a few guys here in the forum that have extra stuff. If you need help, starting a thread, tell me. If you need...
Take the four standoff studs out. Pull the board forward and check each and every wire/connection on the board.
To add to Scooby's post, open up the -24 TM and read at least twice how to check the Main gen. If you don't have a megger, borrow one. Its not rocket science.
Often, someone can not get the set to start. They think that the Actuator is the problem. So it gets removed. Then incorrectly installed. Has anyone ever seen this set run right?
More often its the MPU, as Kurt highlighted in his message.
