This fell out of my transmission...

Exactly what mine had too. The crack wrapped completely around the top to the other side. As Patracy says, I took the opportunity to put in a 700r4!

New 1028 Owner, I have a transmission question.

No movement in any gear range is not good. The least daunting cause of this is going to be low line pressure in the transmission. While its possible that your pump is failing, it can be as simple as low fluid, vacuum problems, or a clogged or improperly installed filter. The filter change is...

New 1028 Owner, I have a transmission question.

When you first start out and the trans acts as if its not in gear, do you have reverse or manual 1st?

    700R4 - NP208 no shift!

Might be long shot, but since you changed your trans filter, did the proper replacement go in? If you have a deep pan and the filter isn't deep enough, your pump could be sucking air. I'm with everyone else though, transfer case seems like the source of the problem.

    M1009 transmission not working properly

That's the access plate to the governor assembly. A faulty governor will affect shifting, and could be your 3rd gear problem, but wouldn't have anything to do with slipping or sluggish gears at take off. Of course you may have more than one issue going on in your trans.

    M1009 transmission not working properly

And of course make sure your fluid levels are correct before doing anything!

    M1009 transmission not working properly

No 3rd up shift could be low pressure, governor problems, valve body problems or clutch problems. I'd start with by checking your pressure. If its low, that could also lead to a sluggish reverse. There is a pressure port on the driver's side of the transmission. Off the top of my head, I...

    M1009 Transmission Problem

"Has anyone had a similar issue and what was the cause? Did the fix require a complete rebuild of the TH 400." Well if you've got slipping clutches, having to rev it just to get moving, and the trans is overheating so bad it boiling out the dip stick tube, I'd say you're going to need to do a...

    M1009 Transmission Problem

Is it coming all the way up the tube and out the top, or is it leaking where the dipstick tube goes into the transmission? Other than the leak, is the transmission functioning properly?

Advice on TH 400 rebuild kits

If you follow the manual you can do the rebuild yourself. There really isn't any big mystery once you get in there and go through the steps. I'm over 3,000 miles into a 700r4 I built. I have absolutely no background working on vehicles or transmissions. I just followed the rebuild manual.

Using the TM to find bolt sizes

When using the parts manual to find bolts, the part number never leads me to a answer. For example right now I'm trying to find the bolts that hold the fast idle solenoid. -20P shows part # 11501095 bolt, machine. If I stick that in google I don't find results that show what size bolt it is...

    Truck won't move...

Yes. Vacuum issues can cause low line pressure in the transmission. Low line pressure can cause loss of movement.
