You are looking for 9-2320-289-## series of TMs for the CUCV. (I think they are on page 6 or so)

Yea, that's the problem... the radiator only holds a portion of the total coolant. The block will have about 2.5 gal in it and the heater core/piping will have about a gallon.

Joe
Ok, you are only at the beginning of getting the rotor off. You have to pull the snap ring that's on the end of the axle stub off and the snap ring on the inside of the hub that holds the aluminum locking hub piece in place. Once you have the locking hub guts out, then you have to remove the two...
I'm pretty sure that the one you have is fine. Continuous duty is for things like winches and what not where they will be energized for longer periods of time. If you're really concerned, buy a new relay and replace it.

Now they're saying 40k, but here's a link... :)

The dozen protesters were so pathetic and drowned out/blocked from view that it was funny. They were all clustered on one corner with...
According to the paper, 45,000 people showed up to the parade today... Nice pics...
That's my CUCV in the last pic... and me and my other half in the 7th pic (we're in the black hats) :)

Wow, that's all kinds of non-regulation....
First off, where does the relay on the passenger's side get triggered from? It appears to shut off main 12V power to the truck when de-energized. If I'm looking at the picture right, the black wire goes to the battery? and then there is a jumper wire...
It's a ground problem, the circuit is backfeeding through the turn signal indicator. Check the grounds in the headlight harness to make sure everything is clean and connected.

It sounds like the coolant temperature switch has failed and the card thinks that the engine is hot all the time. Unhook the plug going to the switch on the back of the driver's side cylinder head and see if that makes a difference. If it does, the switch is bad.

Joe
By come on for only two seconds, does that mean the light is coming on or do you actually hear the clunk of the relay engaging?
Have you tried manually energizing the relay to see if that makes a difference? If not, try this:
Take a wire and connect the terminal with the light blue wire on the...
My previous post in this thread (6 posts up) has the part numbers listed. Any good shop should be able to cross the Gates numbers.
Here they are again...

Pass side Alt, 7483

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that your flexplate/ring gear is FUBAR. If there are some chipped teeth or missing teeth, the force of the starter jumping the teeth can bust the starter for sure. I'd pull the bottom cover and inspect the condition of the teeth.

Joe
Yes, Kragen carries the Gatorback belts... I only have the part number for the Passenger's side alternator, but they should be able to cross reference the other two from the Gates numbers.

I've seen pics of a couple of different inside spares that blew like that... most shattered the side and back windows though, you got lucky.

Without a load tester, put your leads across the battery while he's trying to crank it. If it drops below 9V while cranking it is probably bad. Optimas have a real bad problem with being discharged and recharged too many times, causing the plates to sulfate and the battery to lose capacity...
Something in the alternator popped... have it checked out by a good automotive electrical place that rebuilds starters and alternators. Probably just needs the diodes replaced or something simple.
