I dropped the tank, sucked out the fuel to a couple jerry cans with a drill pump, washed out the inside with water, put in some chain and shook it around, washed it out again, put a pint of denatured alcohol in and swished it around, let it sit in the sun for a bit, stuck my paw in the hole and...
update
Installed the napa 4309 and 3123 filter and wow it pumps a LOT more volume than the oe box. Was working great for about 15 min until I stopped by the liquor store for a cigar and when I came back out and tried to fire it up no dice and clear in-line filter between new spin-on and the ip...
Thanks for getting back Armada. I'd like to get this thing running proper soon so I can focus on body work and paint but with the tank riding in the bed it's looking a little too hillbilly even for me.
Do you have a filter before the electric pump?
Yes, an inline filter with a glass housing...
On my quest to make my m1008 more respectable I decided to attack the gunk that was bogging things down when I got below 1/4 tank. Also had an issue with bogging when driving up medium size hills at highway speeds and hoping this would be cured as well.
Dropped the tank and put it back in...
Changed the oil, rotated the tires, and dumped out all the trash that was in the bed. Oh yeah and got an inspection sticker today. Good to be legal again.
Ignored the lights for a while and finally truck wouldn't start. Took both batts and alts to get tested and one alt was def bad. Took it to the repair shop where the quoted me over the phone and when I came up to the counter the guy was like 'oh that's from a CUCV...we charge $265 for those...
Thanks guys! Really appreciate the advice cause I was never a big fan of electrical stuff and as a result not sure where to start. Will go down the list tonight and post up what I find. :-D
Took the alts out and had them tested at Checkers yesterday and Gen1 failed. Possibly because the test leads for the exciter plug were kinda crappy and didn't fit in all the way, but they were the only place that would let me pull out my wrenches in the parking lot cause the staff there aren't...
Just curious if this is one of the 'bad' glow plug relays. I think I gotta replace it anyway since it's reading only 4 ohms between the pink/black and light blue wires. Supposed to be 6-10.
Wow it's dirty in there. Glad I replaced those exhaust pipe gaskets.
Just figured out how to use the multimeter. Pretty cool little device, but it def helps if you take the little caps off the test leads.
After sitting cool for a bit the system resets and I can hear the glow plugs cycle/operate normal, and the voltometer is dipping into the yellow and the...
I'm gonna start calling it the WTF light here pretty soon.
Also Gen 2 light is coming on when the key is in the ignition before cranking but remains off after that.
Just did two new head gaskets so I may have put something back wrong. Checked the alternator wires like 20x. Fuses and fusable...
Sweet thanks guys. This one has been racking my brain all day. I figured out why there is no stud on the ground lead. Darn thing snapped off when I was taking it apart and I completely forgot.
This is one tough truck to put up with so much neglect and still cruise like it did.
The mystery...
Oh yes the other thing is that the faq article http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showwiki.php?title=wiki:Cucv states that the passenger side alt must have a dedicated ground but all the manuals I've read show it on the drivers side. I'm probably getting stuff confused here so forgive me if that's...
I just changed the head gaksets on my 86 M1008 and go the thing almost all the way back together but the plastic electrical stuff is all crumbly and falling apart so I'm taking extra precautions to make sure everything is where it should be.
I'm down to the ground strap on the alternator and...
