    mep-003 hertz gauge not working

If this uses the same type transducer as was on my MEP-004 it may have two adjustment screws on the back. Remove the transducer and see if there are adjustments there, if yes, you can do what I did: Remove both the gauge and the transducer and with scrap wire wire the transducer to the meter...

Oil weight in the MEP 002a

OK, New Boston is not too bad, roughly the same weather that we get (without the effects of Monadnock!) We use wood when the power is out (could use it all the time, but my wife doesn't like it...) No well, but we do want lights. Personally (and I don't have much air-cooled diesel experience)...

Oil weight in the MEP 002a

I think my setup is about the same as Carl's. In the shop during the winter, no heat unless I'm working (then I bring it up to about 60 degrees). Temps are rarely below freezing inside however (it is insulated, which helps). I may rethink my use of 15W-40 and go with straight 30. Of course...

Oil weight in the MEP 002a

This will be an interesting thread... I was running 15W-40 (Rotella) in my MEP-004, and I think it may be too heavy at colder temperatures. I'm actually wondering if a synthetic might be better for those wild variations in temperature, as the OP noted in NH, we can see swings from -20 to +45 in...

MEP-003A wire size and governor setting questions?

Personally, I'd recommend one never, ever disconnect the batteries on an engine that is running. The surge created can damage the regulator, and other devices connected to the battery line.

    mep-003 still over charging batterys

Yes, the charging regulator. Spikes (which the capacitor would help eliminate) might damage it.
  7. PeterD

    mep-003 still over charging batterys

I'd recommend not eliminating it. It is possible that the noise on the battery line might interfere with the proper operation of the regulator for example.

    mep-003 still over charging batterys

As an EE I will confirm that as why. Also there is little about that capacitor that makes it special, and there are a lot of substitutes you can use in a pinch if the capacitor is bad. Side note: capacitors fail in one of two ways: Open/low capacitance failure: The capacitor opens or has a...

    Mep 002a, 003a automatic starting

NEC has rules for generators. Some of the rules are difficult to meet. Most of the difficult rules to meet are for generators that are permanently connected, and don't apply to plug-in portable generators. The most important requirement is, of course, the main transfer switch with any backup...

    mep-003 still over charging batterys

Just a point of interest. A good capacitor will spark when power is applied. Then if power is applied again it (assuming nothing discharges the capacitor) it won't spark. An open capacitor will not spark. A shorted capacitor will spark, then often times go bang. A leaky capacitor will spark and...

Run 2 x MEP 002a in parallel for 10kw total?

I suspect that it is possible to parallel virtually any set of identical generators, if someone were to create a synchronizing panel with lights. I believe I know of one case where a pair of MEP-002's were synchronized for a large building, but it could have been a different model...

Anybody in Gilmer County Georgia With M116A2?

Well that photo shows clearly that the 'vehicle identification' is not a VIN! The fact that the letters are not stamped is a clear indicator that they don't ever change. In fact that's the wrong plate, I suspect there is/should be another plate with the real serial number (VIN) on it. However...

    Mep 002a, 003a automatic starting

For process of change overs, I'd recommend: 1. Power fails, start and switch over to generator. 2. Power is restored, wait one minute, then switch back to main power. 3. Continue to run generator for an additional five minutes, and reset this timer if the main power fails in the five minute...

    mep-003 still over charging batterys

What are you measuring the voltage with? Make sure your meter is accurate--it would not be the first time that someone was thinking high (or low) voltage and only found out later the meter was off, not the voltage!

    Transmission Upgrade Questions

First, I would suggest joining hummernetworkforums.com and posting there. Some of their users have done similar swaps and can offer advice. AFAIK, no one reports significant changes in fuel consumption, and all report the vehicle handles a bit differently when in 2WD. After all, everything still...

    It's alive! (MEP-004...)

Just a followup... When we started it we found the volt meter to be reading about 20 volts too low. Since I had a replacement, the fix was easy. But... After installing the new volt meter, I tested its calibration again against my digital meter (used the AC line and a suicide cord...) and the...

    It's alive! (MEP-004...)

Sorry, but I just can't resist... We got the MEP-004 running today, despite really damp weather. A lot of problems with leaks from the injectors, and the voltmeter seems off by a bit (reads low) but other than that it both runs and sounds really good. Oh, and it makes power too. Mostly I'm...

    M101A2 24 Volt to 12 Volt Conversion

Napa? No, sorry. I get most of my LEDs from SuperBrightLeds, IIRC superbrightleds.com. Their products are good. Most of teh military replacement LED units are dual voltage. Since most trailers use standard assemblies just like the back of trucks, that makes things easier: eBay is your friend...

    M101A2 24 Volt to 12 Volt Conversion

I would strongly recommend changing the bulbs to 12V bulbs (or dual voltage LEDs if you can!) One thing you don't want to have happen is for someone to rear-end your rig and then say "I couldn't see the lights" and have the investigators find you were running 24 volt bulbs on 12 volts.

    WARNING: People Running RED Lights

John from Wisconsin goes to visit his cousin Vinny, and Vinny's brother Bobbie in New York City. Vinny takes John out for a tour of the city. Blows through every red light, and he hit them all. Just when John was about to say something, they finally hit one that was green. Vinny slams on the...
