If this uses the same type transducer as was on my MEP-004 it may have two adjustment screws on the back. Remove the transducer and see if there are adjustments there, if yes, you can do what I did:
Remove both the gauge and the transducer and with scrap wire wire the transducer to the meter...

I think my setup is about the same as Carl's. In the shop during the winter, no heat unless I'm working (then I bring it up to about 60 degrees). Temps are rarely below freezing inside however (it is insulated, which helps).

Personally, I'd recommend one never, ever disconnect the batteries on an engine that is running. The surge created can damage the regulator, and other devices connected to the battery line.
I'd recommend not eliminating it. It is possible that the noise on the battery line might interfere with the proper operation of the regulator for example.
As an EE I will confirm that as why. Also there is little about that capacitor that makes it special, and there are a lot of substitutes you can use in a pinch if the capacitor is bad.

I suspect that it is possible to parallel virtually any set of identical generators, if someone were to create a synchronizing panel with lights. I believe I know of one case where a pair of MEP-002's were synchronized for a large building, but it could have been a different model...
Well that photo shows clearly that the 'vehicle identification' is not a VIN! The fact that the letters are not stamped is a clear indicator that they don't ever change. In fact that's the wrong plate, I suspect there is/should be another plate with the real serial number (VIN) on it.
However...
For process of change overs, I'd recommend:
1. Power fails, start and switch over to generator.
2. Power is restored, wait one minute, then switch back to main power.
3. Continue to run generator for an additional five minutes, and reset this timer if the main power fails in the five minute...
What are you measuring the voltage with? Make sure your meter is accurate--it would not be the first time that someone was thinking high (or low) voltage and only found out later the meter was off, not the voltage!

I would strongly recommend changing the bulbs to 12V bulbs (or dual voltage LEDs if you can!) One thing you don't want to have happen is for someone to rear-end your rig and then say "I couldn't see the lights" and have the investigators find you were running 24 volt bulbs on 12 volts.
