The gauge (all d'Arsonval meter movements) are typically current driven, not voltage (voltages can be specified, however). I'll see if I can find the spec for this meter.
Do put a VOM (volts scale will work, though the volts will be very low) and see what you get. Also locate the black box for...
My experience has been if they are not disassembled they will be OK. Take them apart (even to inspect) and you have a high likelihood that the gaskets will not fit when you reassemble! As Bob says, this is most common when they (the carb/gasket) has been exposed to fuel.
I think you'll find it is there to allow the control panel to be used for multiple applications. Allows for compatibility between the utility and the precise models.
It is unfortunate that some of the cannon plugs are in fact identical and can be easily be swapped if one is not careful.
The...
I'm with Carl on this, the voltage, with charged batteries, should be about 27 volts. At 24 volts, the batteries would never fully charge, so I'd suggest just tossing on a battery charger and letting 'em charge up then test the voltage again. You can charge each battery independently with a...
For the lights problem, I think you will have to just tracing out continuity using FO-6 as your reference.
You mention a fuse, which one is it? I'll assume it is the fuse on the indicator panel. OK, check continuity from the DC circuit breaker to the fuse holder's innermost terminal/pin. Try...
No, but you can use it as your ground! (technically, you need two or more grounding rods, but regardless of how many they can't be used for the neutral.)
My MEP-004 has the same two wires. Same situation, taped up and appear to never been used. I may take a look in the manual/diagrams and see if I can figure it out, or see if I can trace them one of these days. They are heavier gauge wire...
Cylinder #1 is defined as the cylinder with the rod 'front-most' on the crank. Front-most means the end opposite the flywheel or output flange. Cylinders are always numbered in the order that the rods are on the crank.
Note: front of engine can be the end nearest the firewall, as an example a...
For me the off-road diesel pump is right next to the on-road pump!
Hint: check suppliers of fuel oil (home heating oil) and see if they carry it. Around here many do. I also know a lot of off-road diesel users who simply use home heating oil #2, and get it delivered for free...
Can't quite see the lock, but the combination change suggested above may work. You know you probably have to turn it back to the right to zero after dialing the combination to lift the locking pin, right? At least on mine it is that way: First number, second number, third number, back to zero...
Careful: I've seen snapped off parts trying to turn over engines with impact wrenches. If you want to check for oil pressure, the starter is what I'd use, most starter spin fast enough to generate idle oil pressure without any problems.
Also, spin clockwise from front of engine (where the...
On those lights, consider the possibility that the metal halide lights are frequency sensitive. Much like sodium lamps, they can get really unhappy if the frequency is wrong, as the ballast inductor is 'tuned' for 60 Hz. They'll handle a few Hz off, but if you go too far, things get flaky.
I made it fit by canting it at a bit of an angle so the various connectors would clear. Only two or three things left, get the injectors tested and re-installed, finish the cooling system, exhaust manifold and muffler, batteries, and get fuel flowing in the fuel system.
Then convince someone...
The seller has updated the listing, added new pictures, and indeed it is a 400 Hz unit. I suspect he'll get a bunch of bid cancellations in the next few hours.
Update:
Seller emailed me and was less that polite, guess he thinks that people are jumping on him for no reason at all... Something...
Agreed with the buyer should be aware, but the world is filled with people who make assumptions and then when things go wrong with those assumptions seek to blame others. That is one of the reasons that eBay has its sometimes odd rules on selling and buying! Unfortunately eBay's rules make it...
Hopefully the 5 is the same, the 4 cylinder in the 004 puts the edge of the air-cleaner box near the rear of the engine. I noticed my sender on the air-cleaner box was bent slightly so it is possible this was a problem and someone bent it to clear (some poor GI!) But I'd like to get it 'right'...
Ok, I'm getting along with by rebuild of the MEP-004A that I got as a basket case. Being a basket case, I don't know how a few parts were put together, though I've figured out most of them (do I ever wish that the manuals had better drawings and pictures!)
On the top of the day tank, is the...
