Remove the radiator and go top down, of course!
Just kidding, I know that will be with great difficulty. I haven't been able to come up with an acceptable alternative to this mounting position. A rear winch would be better in that situation.
I continued the winch install on truck #2.
The winch is a 24 volt 17K Sherpa brand "Steed" model. I opted for wire rope to keep the military look as much as possible even though it's not 100% correct.
The ECV-compatible winch plate is Sherpa specific and is from Military Truck Works in...
I had the great honor earlier today of participating in our local July 4th parade to carry Lt. Col. Michael McCuistion, USAF retired, and several other service veterans in the HMMWV.
Lt. Col. McCuistion was an F105 Thunderbolt pilot in Vietnam. He earned two Silver Stars and was shot down over...
I tested my new horn with the stock horn using some alligator clips. I wasn't impressed that the stock horn added anything.
I did have to remove the front bumper, that took some time, but I am putting in a winch later this week so needed to anyway.

Anyone using a flexible hose like a Fume-a-Vent for HMMWV startup?
My HMMWV is garaged and when started will make smoke. I can't leave my garage doors open to vent out the garage because of very cold temps in winter. Same issue with working in the garage during the winter, can't leave the...
Definitely need a winch on any off road vehicle, HMMWV or not, for self recovery. Whether it's front or rear mounted, hydraulic or electric, don't matter. Without it you stay stuck.
Those strike me as all the disadvantages of staying in a 16.5" size (v 17) with none of the benefits of beadlocks (like airing down or being bulletproof).
I can't seem to find much in the archives to help me on these two question.
I am going to be running some high amperage cables from the starter to the front bumper for a Sherpa electric winch installation.
First question, the winch connections are currently covered by a layer of that...
