Makes sense why you went with this truck and not a A2. I also look at cost to operate. Bought a BMY with no year listed. With my research of the truck and Maryland's 25 year Historic plates somehow the research showed how it became a 1990 vintage.
Bumpers are thicker than I remembered but we got them. You should have a much brighter trip once all wired up. I was really impressed with your purchase and to have the curage to go cross country in a 30 year truck.
One other SS person spoke about a Infared gun to check temps on the critical...
Just found this thread. I live in Hagerstown area. Im sure you are well past this but if not I can assist. I know a day late.:???: An adventure of a life time. By the way you didnt say why you are doing the journey (unless I am a day late for that too).
I agree with Beyond Biodiesel. Unless you centrifuge your oil the gasoline will make two distint layers in your oil. I currently use the 5 gallon bucket method to mix settle pour my black diesel. Mix at 4 gallon wmo and one gallon gasoline (gas in bucket first wmo on top to mix well) allow to...
Congrats on the semi worry free trip. 500 miles is a long recovery.
When my two sons and I bought ours from New Castle last year i was lucky enough to notice a local trucking firm hauling military stuff. Talked to the owner and worked a deal for him to haul ours back when he was dead heading...
Mechanicsburg PA Pickup
I know this is a old post but I wanted to share some information to the new GL buyers. I went to Mechanicsburg to get a fuel separator and a file cabinet safe a couple months ago. I was sweating last trip because at first I couldnt find my insurance card. This base...
Thanks all for the tank repair advise. Once I get some of my other projects completed I will get back on that mep. Currently its been too cold to work in my shop so I have been doing other things.
About the Sparta sale. Was that thru GL or Iron planet? What was the sale number. Just like to...
Hi 002a users
I bought an MEP 002a out of New Castle (GL) about a year ago on a trailer. When I was going over it I found that the fuel tank had a bunch of crap (sludge) in it. Once I removed it and flushed it out some pin holes opened up. A couple were about 1/8 in size a couple places...
Unless you have a 3/4 ton truck I would not even consider a double stack. Pulled several 105's and you can tell they are back there. I hauled a MKT with a F-250 IDI Ford and it was all it wanted to do with 90 degrees temps (since changed the clogged radiator much cooler now both temp and...
Just an idea for other recoveries. I now pack a grease gun with a point adapter and a cordless drill with a 1/8 drill bit. Coat the drill bit with a layer of grease. This way the grease will trap the shavings on the bit not the inside of the hub and drill the center of the hubcap. Pump in enough...
Welcome. Green Disease strikes another. Im over here in the Hagerstown MD area not far from you. Enjoy your time with your sons as they grow up. I guess I need to get some pictures together and post my intro.
Just started down the road of the great super suckers. I first started out with a 5 gallon jug and some valves/ hoses. Progressed to this.

Newer cars have a sealed gas tank and system so the lighter gases cant escape a they did in the old vented cap vehicles. This could explain some of the success you had with the car.
I would think that open flames are a No No with oils. Your are correct heat will not travel down below the element very far. Like a hot water heater when cold the top element will be energized until the upper section gets to temp then lower element comes on until that section gets to temp. Only...
I know this is an old thread but I also have ran stale gas. One way was in a 1988 ford f250 with a dual tank. I switched back to the "good" tank when stopping. Then starting on "Good Gas" then switching back until next shut down time. Any time you shut down on stale gas and let the motor cool...
The Waste Veg Oil burners do this all the time. Look up Golden fuel systems or greascar to give you some ideas. When I use the mixture mine will start just has to grind a little more than pure diesel.
