SO glad I checked out this thread. I changed girl friends a while and still having a hard time dealing with the changes, just like this site. The old one would save a slice of bacon for me when we had breakfast, the new one would yell at me if I touched her food. The old one liked to get up in...
Bob Kettler Tech tips, the TM's and SuperDave's hands showed me that the timing should be set at the Notch. Mine was set at 12 degrees when Dave got to it so we left it but I've been messing with it aggressively. It should fire through a wide range of timing.
I replaced 3 capacitors and 1...
I have a bad transfer case and now I know where to find one. At the bottom of your ammo can.
I can't add much to the list because these guys are amazing. I like pictures so if people find this stuff laying around their yard, they know what it is.
One day I'll get a Currently Listed Items...
Ya got me all excited again. Are we going to get to be there when you fire it up? A little video maybe? 8 years sitting makes the anticipation of a running 302 just that much better. Wish I could help.
Who knows, maybe you struck on a modification that makes her run sweet with twice the fuel...
Dedication Ideas
Are you sure dude, Jeni thinks you're mistaken...........Closer to this guy.
Went and picked up the Powder Coated 302 valve cover and dropped some samples off of oil and acrylic lettering on a template they loaned us.
The idea is to use some hand drawn military font laid down...
Idle Screw OVER-TIGHTEN No-No
I don't care how much a guy reads, there are still daily lessons happening that re-open my eyes.
So our lesson for the day Sturm is DO NOT tighten idle screws EVER? I remember my big mitted Irish Dad teaching that lesson while I was working on a go-cart. He'd say...
M211 Preservation
Arrrr, you got er' Gunner. The bro' has always wanted a car hauler. He bought a 57' 3 ton, his birth year, and wanted to put it on a modern 1 ton chassis. Then he's limited on what he can carry. Now that I have a 'modified' frame, it's no longer original and maybe we can use...
Xm215
Welcome to old, fat, heavy, Early Deuce life. The truck is nice......I mean from what I've seen recently, real nice.
I tried to pass the one in the pics off to someone else but haven't heard back. It's 5 hrs East of Spokane, some 300+ miles away.
Are you going original or useful? If you...
Good to see I'm not alone in my insanity Andrew. The only difference is, I see 2 rows, one on either side of the driveway a 1/2 mile long, all in steel weather proof sheds, all of them 'serviced' and running and half of them OD.
If we're 'seeing' fleets of G749's sitting, makes a guy wonder...
More, the M211 CDN with US markings
My first view of this 211 in the first photo was of a tired truck that just wanted to be rescued.
Wrong again. This thing fought hard to stay where it was. The beast wouldn't roll which encouraged us to remove 3 drive-shafts that didn't want to come off...
M135's recovery
Curly's after service life as a possible manure spreader......is over now.... and a long future awaits.
After a nearly flawless 40 mile trip the 2 M135's are tucked away at the G749 Sanctuary.
Trying to get backed into the paddock with an inch of rain on top of snotty Alberta...
cmpman you are the best. I would like to have that truck please. What are your thoughts about the changes that were made to it? Any chance it's worth saving?
There would need to be enough there to put the rear section back to original.
I'll send you a PM and we can chat.
Great rig, first time i've seen one. Now I like really fire-trucks.
A few good links googling' R2 crash truck but here are some great pics with a few interior shots.

M211 lookin' M135
Larry on the inside and the data plate which shows the production date being March 18, 1953. My first 6by was hatched on March 16, 1956.
The dually off-set, incorrect rims.
Curly and Larry
John Deere gave us a hand loading the trucks today and phase 1 of the recovery is done. Took a few pics of Curly and the the frame extension. It also has a "backwards"? PTO pushing a shaft toward the rear diff and a big ol' sprocket hanging off the end.
Any guesses as to the...
I had the good fortune of meeting a local collector right here on Steel Soldiers. My good fortune is now his good fortune as the desire to be swimming in the pool of green iron was strong so I bought a couple of parts trucks and an M211.
We'll call them Larry, Curly and More.
Here's Larry...
G749 Hood Preservation
Had a minute between shifts so went after the hood with blocks and hammer. Knocked a few dents out of it and figured it was time to paint.
Matching the factory color, texture and finish can be done if you use the same 2 year application method used here. Glass blast...
Thanks SuperDave, feelin' a little better everyday about parking next to this:

I was checking the SS site and other places about MV restoration and found the MVPA 'judging' sheets on this page...
Welcome and Thank You for serving.
Once I bit into the green I found local support through the MVPA. They hold a weekly meeting which justifies and encourages green iron on the street on a regular basis. Here's an MVPA international link...
