M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

Amen to that. Been there, done that (with a bicycle for Olga). She just said yes in the end to get me off her back, I did not realize that at the time. Not a good move on my side (I was still young).:)

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

I agree with most of what you say but unfortunately, those beasts are used as expensive as brand new trucks, which they outperform with a considerable margin. Regardless, if I had the money it would be a serious contender for a used Toyota Landcruiser or Hilux but for three things. 1)...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

DEF/DPG became mandatory only around 2009, earlier cars would not have that equipment, and a well-maintained eight year old Landcruiser definitely is up to a lot of abuse. However, I think forester made a lot of top remarks; copy it and put it on your beware list. We experienced the same in...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

Cannot edit, so another post. With the hubs lock-free I meant to say that they could be locked or released manually. One advantage of the smaller diesel engine is that you use less fuel. Not a cost topic but a range topic; you don't have to stop at a gas station every second day. A heavy 6...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

One of your best options for this would be a Toyota Landcruiser. The real working horses, not the later "comfort line". I am a biologist myself and have been driving around in northern BC (Alaska Highway mile 422) from February until July, including during severe flooding. In BC, we used a...

I'm Thinking About Buying A Tank

Oh Man, I can see my grand kids jumping on top of that thing and having a lot of fun with it. Or use it like inflatable raft for some water fun. Talking about a nice alternative for an inflatable chair. Maybe even something for our Iron Curtain exhibition.

    Steel Soldiers, users age

But boy, it sure will look very long. Actually, all over Europe the standard more or less obligatory retirement at 65 is being raised. By the time I reach that border, it will be raised to 66 already.

Steel Soldiers MV of the YEAR - 2014 VOTE HERE!

Time is up, time to vote. All of his have different reasons and emotions why we bother with these expensive toys and why we bother to vote here. Some members cannot really afford an MV at all but put everything in it to them to keep them rolling. Some have just enough balance of money...

Steel Soldiers MV of the YEAR - 2014 VOTE HERE!

It's not over yet. Some people still have to vote! just wondering, what happened with those gun trucks after the war ended?

    CUCV in Belgium?

For trucks, REOMIE in the Netherlands is still the best place in Europe, but you pay through the nose! Most of that stuff is slowly adapted for sale to Africa, in parts or whole. They have a lot of Willys jeep stuff as well, but Staman has more. However, never saw an CUCV in either place.

    CUCV in Belgium?

Those good old days of surplus auctions for this stuff are over as far as I know. You can get more modern stuff, but I think the auctions of old where whole depots were sold off when a unit left Europe are over. I am not sure what happens today with the older US stuff from the German bases...

    baby HEMTT Project

Did not read any further than this post, had to jump in. I am game. Even willing to fly into California and help get it onto a trailer and out to GA. Gives me a good excuse to come over again. Edit after reading the rest of the posts: Ron, sounds like a good trip

Steel Soldiers MV of the YEAR - 2014 VOTE HERE!

Second picture in that post. The truck is driving or stationary? I was looking at the person in the driver's window but it looks like a mannequin or a puppet, maybe Robin from Batman? Looks like a Photoshop job to me. The fifth pic is much better.

    Roadside safety: Stay Alive!

Very good thread. Sticky? In Europe, reflective vests and danger triangles are MANDATORY in all cars and the newer ones work very good. Not only do you need to have them in the car, anybody outside the car has to wear a vest the moment he-she gets out of the car. Not doing so can cost you a...

Steel Soldiers MV of the YEAR - 2014 VOTE HERE!

Just got back on site after several weeks off. Thanks to PB's campaigning I noticed this thread at all, almost mist it. I am torn. History versus personal preference. Proud vs DaveP's rig. I will give it a few days to ponder over even if the race seems to be decided already. Anyway, a...

    I almost feel guilty...

I was writing down "Or burns in the wrong place, like one lbs of plain sugar". Decided to check that on internet if it really works and found out that it does not work that great in diesels, although it might mess up your filters. Regardless, the idea that somebody comes over and dumps something...

Official 2014 SS Georgia Rally Multimedia SSGR14 thread

Land Rover Time for some exotic stuff; the British compound. Actually, that group of Land Rovers had one small Jeep hiding amongst them. I think that the main ham area coincided with the Land Rover camp. OK, thanks to Mike "Whiterabbit", an update on types and owners. I deleted my "what...
